This video describes the process for installing the Sport Collection of accessories on an Indian Motorcycle FTR. It includes the Carbon Fiber Tank Covers (0:23), Carbon Fiber Seat Cowl (3:56) and Carbon Fiber Front Mudguard (5:54).
Always wear safety glasses and nitrile gloves when installing accessories on your Indian Motorcycle. Before beginning any accessory installation, read the instructions thoroughly and ensure the bike is parked on a flat level surface with the key removed.
Carbon Fiber Tank Covers
Required Tools and Supplies:
- T40 TORX® Socket
- 6mm Allen Socket
- 4mm Allen Socket
- Ratchet
- Torque Wrench
- Isopropyl Alcohol
- Safety Glasses
- Nitrile Gloves
- Shop Rags
The Carbon Fiber Tank Covers are part number 2884089. To install them, follow these steps. View the instructions for this kit by searching the Polaris Accessory Installation Instruction Site.
1. Begin by using a T40 TORX® socket to remove the two fasteners securing the rear passenger handles on each side of the bike. Remove the handles and set them aside.
2. Remove the two seat fasteners behind the handles on each side of the motorcycle frame with a 6mm Allen socket.
3. Pull the seat back and lift up to remove it from the motorcycle.
4. Loosen the four bezel fasteners from the tank bezel with a 4mm Allen socket. Set the tank bezel aside on a soft surface. Use care to avoid misplacing the compression limiters.
5. Pivot the center console and pull forward to remove it from the tank cover.
6. With a 6mm Allen socket, remove the two tank cover fasteners from the rear of the tank covers.
7. Move to the tank covers and pull outward at the bottom of the cover to disengage the rubber grommets.
8. Lift the cover up from the alignment tabs on top. Remove it from the vehicle.
9. Flip the new covers over and clean the ends of the covers with isopropyl alcohol.
10. Peel the backing from the foam bumpers and apply one to each tank cover. Refer to the online or written instructions for general placement guidelines.
11. Move to the mounting grommets in the frame and spray them with a solution of soap and water to aid in installation.
12. Continue by placing each tank cover on the alignment bracket tabs and pivoting down to engage the two frame grommets.
13. Reinstall the two rear tank cover fasteners. Torque to 36 in-lbs (4 Nm).
14. Attach the included hook-and-loop fastener pads at the four locations below the alignment tabs.
15. Continue by reinstalling the center console trim into the bottom bracket and pivoting down to engage the four hook-and-loop pads.
16. Reinstall the tank bezel with the four retained fasteners and compression limiters. Torque to 36 in-lbs (4 Nm).
17. Move to the seat and locate the two tabs on the underside of the seat. They will slide beneath the seat support bracket.
18. Slide the seat into the seat support bracket and into the front mounting bracket.
19. Secure the rear of the seat with the two retained seat fasteners. Torque to 84 in-lbs (9.5 Nm).
20. Finish by reinstalling each passenger handle with the two retained handle fasteners. Torque the fasteners to 19 ft-lbs (26 Nm).
Carbon Fiber Seat Cowl
Required Tools and Supplies:
- T40 TORX® Socket
- 4mm Allen Socket
- Tape Measure
- Marker
- Ratchet
- Torque Wrench
- Safety Glasses
- Nitrile Gloves
- Shop Rags
The Carbon Fiber Seat Cowl is part number 2883900. To install it, follow these steps. View the instructions for this kit by searching the Polaris Accessory Installation Instruction Site.
1. Begin by using a T40 TORX® socket to remove the two fasteners securing the rear passenger handles on each side of the bike. Remove the handles and set them aside.
2. Install four clip-nuts onto the seat cowl mounts.
3. Align the cowl brackets with the clip-nuts. Using a 4mm Allen socket, secure the brackets with the included fasteners. The pointed ends of the bracket should face toward the front of the bike.
4. Once installed, torque the bracket fasteners to 55 in-lbs (6 Nm).
5. Apply two pieces of foam on the inside of the seat cowl. Ensure the foam pieces are centered horizontally and equally spaced vertically. From the rear of cowl to the rear foam should be 37mm (1.5 in). From the front of cowl to the front foam should be 64mm (2.5 in).
6. Place the seat cowl assembly over the rear portion of the seat.
7. Pass the handle fasteners through the passenger handles and seat cowl brackets.
8. Before torqueing, adjust the seat cowl height to ensure even spacing along the sub-frame and rear taillight.
9. Torque the handle fasteners to 19 ft-lbs (26 Nm).
Carbon Fiber Front Mudguard
Required Tools and Supplies:
- 6mm Allen Socket
- Ratchet
- Torque Wrench
- Safety Glasses
- Nitrile Gloves
- Shop Rags
The Carbon Fiber Front Mudguard is part number 2884088. To install it, follow these steps. For more information, view the instructions.
1. Begin by using a 6mm Allen socket to remove the two fasteners from each side of the front mudguard. Remove the mudguard.
2. Place the new guard over the front tire and align the mounting holes.
3. Loosely install all four mudguard fasteners and washers.
4. Torque the fasteners to 96 in-lbs (11 Nm).
