IN MEMORY OF A LEGEND!

My name is Mitch Ruth and I have dedicated this Project Scout® build to my grandfather John Killbery. He Started Headingley Sport Shop in 1969 and built it with hours of hard work and dedication. When I was about 11 I started worked with him in the back where he taught me the fundamentals of mechanics and engineering which lead me to a diploma in mechanical engineering technology. He passed away in November at the age of 84 and this Scout build would have been right up his alley which is why I’ve dedicated this build to him. Building a Legend, In Memory of a Legend!

Build Description: 
During the build lots of staff helped contribute ideas, man power and even to acquire parts. Jeff Altenburg was lead technician who dis-assembled the entire bike in order to have the frame sent out for powder coating. He also re-assembled and installed all custom parts and accessories on the bike plus a custom double LED headlight conversion set-up. 

During the tear down, I myself was busy painting the flat rustic oxide across all the fenders, tank and trim pieces. First starting with a base coat of a color matched primer red. Then layering with an AutoAir wicked oxide red followed by AutoAir transparent root beer to give all the edges and contours a darker color giving depth. The AutoAir wicked gold for the Indian® script and a few trim pieces to finish the paint off. To give the bike an older look I added a urethane flattening agent to the clear coat to achieve an ultra flat finish. 

The exhaust was hand fabricated starting from the header mounts back. I wanted to keep similar lines as the stock exhaust but make it a loud, true dual exhaust with shorten pipes with a classy yet aggressive side slash cut stainless tips. To keep with the theme we wrapped the pipes in 1” black header wrap.
