Removing and Installing Hard Saddlebags

When using the hard saddlebags on your Indian Motorcycle, do not exceed the weight limit of each bag. Always distribute the weight evenly in each of the saddlebags. The capacity for hard bags is 22 pounds (10 kg) of cargo per side. 

Model Year 2019 and Newer
Model year 2019 and newer Indian Motorcycle models featuring hard saddlebags have fastener bolts. To remove and reinstall the hard bags, follow these steps:

1. Remove the side cover.

2. Unlock the electric saddlebag locks, if equipped. Tip: The provided key can also be used in the latch release buttons to unlock the saddlebag lids.

3. Disconnect the saddlebag lock wiring (1) near the seat.

4. Press the lid latch release button and lift the lid.

5. Remove the saddlebag fastener bolts (2) with a 6mm Allen socket.

6. Tilt the saddlebag away from the frame of the vehicle to remove it.

7. To reinstall, place the hard bag in a fully seated position on the muffler.

8. Insert the the saddlebag fastener bolts, using a 6mm Allen socket. Torque to 18 ft-lbs (24 Nm).

9. Reconnect the electrical wiring.

10. Reinstall the side cover, using care to avoid damaging electrical wires.

Warning: Improper saddlebag installation can result in loss of control, accident and driving hazards for other motorists if a saddlebag falls from the motorcycle. Always make sure the saddlebags are mounted properly.

Model Year 2018 and Older
Model year 2018 and older motorcycle with hard saddlebags feature quick-release latches. To remove and reinstall the saddlebags on those motorcycles, watch the following video and read the instructions below.

To remove and reinstall the hard saddlebags:

1. Remove the side cover.

2. Unlock the electric saddlebag locks. Tip: The provided key can also be used in the latch release buttons to unlock the saddlebag lids.

3. Disconnect the saddlebag lock wiring (1) near the seat.

4. Press the lid latch release button and lift the lid.

5. Flip the two quick-release latches upward.

6. Tilt the saddlebag away from the frame of the vehicle to remove it.

7. To reinstall, place the hard bag in a fully seated position on the muffler. Notice: To prevent damage to components, always make sure saddlebags are fully seated on the muffler before engaging the latches.

8. Make sure the rubber bushings (5) on the latch pins (3) are fully engaged in the spools (4). Engage the quick-release latches (2) and flip them fully downward.

9. Reconnect the electrical wiring.

10. Reinstall the side cover, using care to avoid damaging electrical wires.

Warning: Improper saddlebag installation can result in loss of control, accident and driving hazards for other motorists if a saddlebag falls from the motorcycle. Always make sure saddlebag mounting brackets are fully seated onto the spools before engaging latches.
