2019+ FTR Rally Collection Installation

This video describes the installation process for the Rally Collection of accessories on an Indian Motorcycle FTR. It includes the Tank Cover (0:18), Aviator Seat (4:05), Rally Foot Pegs (5:45), Rear Mudguard (7:02), Radiator Guard (8:38), Front Mudguard (9:54), Rally Handlebars (12:04) and Windshield and Mount (19:08). Always wear safety glasses and nitrile gloves when servicing your Indian Motorcycle. Before installation of any accessories, park the bike on a flat, level surface and remove the key. 

Tank Covers

The Tank Covers in Gloss Pearl White shown in the video are part number 2884143-1807. To install them or other tank covers, follow these steps. For more information, view the instructions.  

1. Remove the two fasteners securing the rear passenger handles on each side of the bike with a T40 TORX® socket. Remove the handles and set aside. 

2. Remove the two seat fasteners behind the handles on each side of the motorcycle frame with a 6mm Allen socket.

3. Pull the seat back and lift up to remove from the motorcycle. 

4. Loosen the four bezel fasteners from the tank bezel with a 4mm Allen socket. Set the tank bezel aside on a soft surface. Use care to avoid misplacing the compression limiters.

5. Pivot the center console and pull forward to remove from the tank cover. 

6.  Remove the two tank cover fasteners from the rear of the tank covers with a 6mm Allen socket. 

7. Move to the tank covers and pull outward at the bottom of the cover to disengage the rubber grommets.

8. Lift the cover up from the alignment tabs on top and remove from the vehicle. 

9. Flip the new covers over and clean the ends of the covers with isopropyl alcohol.  

10. Peel the backing from the foam bumpers and apply one to each tank cover. Refer to the online or written instructions for general placement guidelines.

11. Move to the mounting grommets in the frame and spray with a solution of soap and water to aid in installation. 

12. Placie each tank cover on the alignment bracket tabs and pivot down to engage the two frame grommets. 

13. Reinstall the two rear tank cover fasteners. Torque to 36 in-lbs (4 Nm). 

14. Attach the included hook-and-loop fastener pads at the four locations below the alignment tabs. 

15. Reinstall the center console trim into the bottom bracket and pivot down to engage the four hook-and-loop pads.

16. Reinstall the tank bezel with the four retained fasteners and compression limiters. Torque to 36 in-lbs (4 Nm). 

17. Move to the seat and locate the two tabs on the underside of the seat. They will slide beneath the seat support bracket. 

18. Slide the seat into the seat support bracket and into the front mounting bracket. 

19. Secure the rear of the seat with two retained seat fasteners. Torque to 84 in-lbs (9.5 Nm). 

20. Finish by reinstalling each passenger handle with the two retained handle fasteners. Torque the fasteners to 19 ft-lbs (26 Nm). 

Aviator Seat Installation

The Aviator Seat is part number 2883503-VNA. To install the seat on your FTR, follow these steps. For more information, view the instructions

1. Remove the two fasteners securing the rear passenger handles on each side of the bike with a T40 TORX® socket. Remove the handles and set aside. 

2. Remove the two seat fasteners behind the handles from each side of the motorcycle frame with a 6mm Allen socket. 

3. Slide the seat back and pull up to remove the seat from the motorcycle. 

4. Identify the two tabs on the underside of the seat.

5. Slide the seat onto the support bracket and into the front mounting bracket, ensuring the two tabs slide beneath the support bracket. 

6. Reinstall the two seat fasteners. Torque to 84 in-lbs (9.5 Nm). 

7. Continue by reinstalling each passenger handle and two handle fasteners. Torque the fasteners to 19 ft-lbs (26 Nm). 

Rally Foot Peg Installation
Required Tools and Supplies: 

  • Pick or Flat-Blade Screwdriver
  • Safety Glasses
  • Nitrile Gloves
  • Shop Rags

The Rally Foot Pegs are part number 2883521. To install the foot pegs on your FTR, follow these instructions. For more information, view the instructions

1. On each foot peg, remove and discard the retaining ring from the pivot pin with a pick or flat-blade screwdriver. 

2. Slide the pivot pin and remove the foot peg with spring.

3. Install the spring into the new foot peg and align with the mounting hole on the peg mount. 

4. Carefully compress the spring to align the pivot pin mounting holes. The spring will attempt to rotate during this step. A flat-blade screwdriver can help align the spring.

5. Install the pivot pin to secure the foot peg, ensuring the spring has not moved out of place.

6. Install a new retaining ring on the pivot pin, and repeat this process for the other foot peg.

Rear Mudguard Installation

The rear mudguard is part number 2883502-581. The mudguard also requires an accessory mount kit, part number 2883842. To install the rear mudguard on your FTR, follow these steps. For more information, view the rear mudguard instructions and mount kit instructions

1. Remove the two passenger handle fasteners on each side of the seat with a T40 TORX® socket, and remove the handles. 

2. Before installing the rear mudguard, the Accessory Mounting Kit will need to be installed. 

  • Ensure the correct orientation of the mounting bracket. The longer end of the bracket should face rearward.
  • Install the bracket with the two provided fasteners. Torque to 19 ft-lbs (26 Nm). 
  • Then reinstall the passenger handle with two fasteners. Torque to 19 ft-lbs (26 Nm). 
  • Repeat this procedure on the opposite side. 

3. Align the mudguard with the middle holes of the accessory mount. Pass the four included fasteners through the mudguard and accessory mount. 

4. Install the four included nuts with a 6mm Allen socket and counter-hold with a 10mm wrench while torqueing the fasteners to 96 in-lbs (11 Nm). Using a ball Allen while torqueing will aid in avoiding paint damage.

Radiator Guard Installation

The Radiator Guard is part number 2883768. To install the radiator guards on your FTR, follow these steps. For more information, view the instructions.

1. Remove the push pin on top of the radiator covers.

2. With a 6mm Allen socket, remove the two fasteners from each cover and remove the covers. The right-side cover will need to be rotated around the radiator cap.

3. With a T30 TORX® socket, install the radiator guard with the two included fasteners and spacers on the inside. Torque the fasteners to 36 in-lbs (4 Nm) and repeat on the other side. 

Front Mudguard Installation

The Silver Smoke Front Mudguard shown in the video is accessory part number 2883501-581 (discontinued). To install a front mudguard on your FTR, follow these steps. For more information, view the instructions

1. Remove the two fasteners from each side of the front mudguard with a 6mm Allen socket, and remove the mudguard from the motorcycle. 

2. With a 10mm socket, remove and discard the fastener and clip retaining the wheel speed sensor harness. 

3. Using a 5mm Allen socket, loosely install the mudguard mount with a fastener and washer to hold it in place.

4. Using a 5mm Allen socket, loosely install the fork guard and the two remaining washers and fasteners.  

5. Repeat this installation on the right side.

6. Carefully place the mudguard beneath the mudguard mounts, and loosely install the four included mudguard fasteners with a T30 TORX® socket. Use care to prevent damage to the mudguard finish. 

7. Once all the mudguard fasteners have been installed, torque them to 96 in-lbs (11 Nm). 

8. Torque the mudguard mount fasteners to 96 in-lbs (11 Nm). 

9. Install the routing clip into the left-hand mudguard mount and attach the cable tie portion to the wheel speed sensor harness.

10. Finish by trimming any excess length of the cable tie. 

Rally Handlebar Installation

The Rally Handlebars are part number 2883769. To install the rally handlebars on your FTR, follow these steps. For more information, view the instructions

1. Remove the display assembly. The process is similar for the standard cluster or Ride Command display.

  • Remove the lower fasteners from the front of the assembly with a 5mm Allen socket.  
  • Disconnect the harness connector and two USB connectors on the back of the Ride Command display, and remove the display. 

2. Loosen but do not completely remove the bar end fasteners with a 6mm Allen socket until the end cap and wedge anchor assembly can be removed from the handlebar tube.

3. Align the nozzle of the air blow gun between the left handlebar and grip. Blow air to loosen and remove the grip. Isopropyl alcohol may be used to reduce friction on the grips. Always remember to follow all warnings and precautions on the labels. 

4. Unbutton the left rubber cable tie with a pick, and retain for reinstallation. 

5. Move to the right hand controls, and unbutton the rubber cable tie with a pick. Retain this for re-installation. 

6. Push in the connector tabs with a pick to disconnect the left hand control harness and clutch. 

7. With a 5mm Allen socket, remove and retain the two fasteners to separate the side mirror perch and clutch lever. Allow the clutch lever to carefully hang, and place the mirror perch aside. 

8. Insert a 2mm hex key into the left-hand switch cube to disengage the mounting clip. Ensure the hex key is inserted into the small square hole on the switch cube and not the against the handlebar.

9. With the hex key still inserted, slide the left hand switch cube toward the center of the handlebar. Use caution to ensure the hex key doesn’t damage the handlebar finish.

10. With the switch cube slid inward, remove the mounting clip. 

11. Slide the left hand switch cube off the handlebar and set aside.

12. Disconnect the connector tabs on the right hand controls with a pick. 

13. Loosen but do not remove the fastener from the electronic throttle control with a T20 TORX® socket. 

14. Remove the two fasteners from the side-mirror perch and brake master cylinder. Ensure the master cylinder is supported and kept level to prevent brake fluid leakage. 

15. Remove and retain the four fasteners and two center clamps on the handlebar with a 6mm Allen socket. 

16. Move the handlebars toward the left side of the bike and slide the ETC off the handlebar. Allow it to carefully hang. 

17. Remove the handlebar and set on a protective cloth.

18. Disengage the right hand switch cube mounting clip by inserting a 2mm hex key into the small square hole on the cube. Ensure the key is not against the handlebar. 

19. With the hex key still inserted, slide the right hand switch cube toward the center of the handlebar, ensuring the hex key doesn’t damage the finish. 

20. With the switch cube slid inward, remove the mounting clip.

21. Slide the right hand switch cube off the handlebar, and gently set it aside.

22. Slide the right hand switch cube onto the Rally Handlebar. 

23. Place the mounting clip into the hole on the handlebar, and slide the cube over the mounting clip until it snaps into place.

24. Move to the bike, and slide the throttle onto the handlebar. 

25. Carefully place the handlebar in place, ensuring the instrument cluster harness is routed underneath. Then loosely install the two riser caps and four retained fasteners. Do not torque at this time. 

26. Adjust the handlebar to zero index. 

27. Beginning with the front fasteners, torque the handlebar to 18 ft-lbs (24 Nm). 

28. Reinstall the right mirror perch and brake master cylinder with the two retained fasteners. Ensure the mirror and brake lever position is at the desired position. Torque to 96 in-lbs (11 Nm). 

29. Adjust the throttle to your desired location. Torque the fastener to 27 in-lbs (3 Nm). 

30. Reconnect the right hand switch cube harness connectors. 

31. Secure the right hand switch cube harness to the handlebar with the retained rubber cable tie. 

32. Slide the left hand switch cube onto the handlebar and toward the center, past the clip mounting point.

33. Place the mounting clip in the mounting hole, and slide the left hand switch cube over the clip until it snaps into place. 

34. Loosely install the mirror perch to the clutch lever with the two retained fasteners. Ensure the mirror and clutch lever are positioned at your desired location. Torque to 96 in-lbs (11 Nm).

35. Reconnect the clutch and harness connectors to the left hand switch cube. 

36. Secure the left hand switch cube harness to the handlebar with the retained rubber cable tie. 

37. Install the handlebar grips by applying air pressure to the inside of the grips and carefully working them into place. Isopropyl alcohol can be used to reduce friction on the grips. 

38. Install the handlebar end wedge anchor assemblies until the bar end is flush with the handlebar tube. 

39. Torque the handlebar ends to 18 ft-lbs (24 Nm). 

40. Before continuing, test the controls on both ends of the handlebars to ensure they are at your desired location.

41. Reinstall the cluster or Ride Command display.

  • Pass the bushings through the two rubber washers, and place them in the instrument cluster assembly.
  • Connect the instrument cluster to the electrical chassis harness and the two USB connectors. 
  • Secure with the two retained fasteners and washers. 
  • Torque the fasteners to 84 in-lbs (9.5 Nm). 

Windshield and Mount Installation

The low windshield is shown in the video. The low windshield with headlight cowl is part number 2884010. The low windshield without headlight cowl is part number 2883507. The windshield mount is part number 2884011. Other windshields include the mid windshield without cowl (part number 2883506) and mid windshield with cowl (part number 2884009). To install a windshield and mount on your FTR, follow these steps. For more information, view the instructions.

1. If applicable, remove the four headlight cowl fasteners with a 4mm Allen socket and remove the cowl.

2. With a 5mm Allen socket, remove the two fasteners from the top of the headlight bracket. 

3. Remove the two lower headlight fasteners at the base of the headlight bracket with a 5mm Allen socket. Turning the handlebars from lock to lock will help improve access to the lower fasteners.

4. Tilt the assembly forward to gain access to the connectors behind it.

5. With a flat-blade screwdriver, lightly push the tab on the electronic throttle connector and slide it off the push-pin clip. Disconnecting this connector is not necessary.

6. Disconnect the headlight from the chassis harness. The headlight connector will remain installed on the push-pin clip. 

7. Remove the headlight assembly and carefully set aside on a soft surface. 

8. Before proceeding, ensure the face of the headlight assembly is protected with a cloth or other soft surface before placing face down. 

9. Loosely install the left and right hand mounts on the back of the headlight bracket with the four included fasteners and washers.

10. Slide the windscreen mount assembly over the headlight bracket, and place one spacer between the windscreen bracket and headlight bracket in each top mounting hole.

11. Loosely install the brackets onto the windscreen mounts with the included bracket fasteners. Do not torque at this time. 

12. With a 5mm Allen socket, torque the bracket mounting fasteners to 96 in-lbs (11 Nm). 

13. Reconnect the headlight connector to the chassis harness connector. 

14. Reinstall the electronic throttle connector onto the push-pin clip on the back of the headlight mount. 

15. Reinstall the headlight assembly and align the mounting holes, ensuring the brake and clutch cables are routed behind the middle of the headlight.

16. Reinstall the two lower fasteners while turning the handlebars as needed to improve access.

17. Install the two provided upper fasteners. Torque all headlight fasteners to 96 in-lbs (11 Nm). 

18. Torque the bracket fasteners to 84 in-lbs (9.5 Nm). 

19. If applicable, install the headlight cowl and four fasteners. Torque the fasteners to 18 in-lbs (2 Nm). 

20. To install the windshield and wind deflector, remove the four mounting fasteners and caps from the windshield bracket with a 4mm Allen socket. 

21. Align the wind deflector with the arms of the windshield mount and loosely install with the four fasteners and caps. 

22. Torque the windshield fasteners to 96 in-lbs (11 Nm).
