Updating Maps and Software for Indian Motorcycle Ride Command

Before beginning the update, it is recommended that you plug your bike into a trickle charger to ensure the battery does not die. Leave your bike in the ON position, so that the electrical is running but the engine is not. 

Updating Indian Motorcycle Software for Touring and Bagger Models
On your computer:

1. Go to ridecommand.indianmotorcycle.com and log in or create an account. Those links can be found in the upper-right corner.

2. If this is your first time logging in, register your motorcycle using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the GARAGE tab from the top menu to add a vehicle to your account.

On this page, you will enter your VIN number and name your vehicle. 

3. Once logged in, scroll to the bottom of the screen to and click on the UPDATE VEHICLE SOFTWARE link.

4. Use the links on the left-hand side of the page to download the latest software to a USB flash drive (the file cannot be in a folder).

For model year 2020 Touring and Bagger motorcycles, updated software includes Apple CarPlay® integration for models equipped with navigation. Pairing a Bluetooth® headset to the motorcycle and plugging in (via USB) your CarPlay®-equipped phone will provide access to Apple Music®, maps, message sending via Siri and more through the Ride Command screen. 

Under the Connected Service section, you can check your subscription status to features like live traffic, live weather and connected destination search. 

To switch to a different display and version of Ride Command, click CHANGE in the upper-right corner. A pop-out window will appear with the display options. 

On your model year 2020 and newer touring or bagger motorcycle:

1. Connect the USB drive (with new software downloaded) to the USB cable in the storage compartment above the display.

2. Go to the settings menu on your Ride Command display. To get there, touch the Indian Motorcycle button at the top of the screen.

3. After you’ve accessed the drop-down menu, hit the settings button in the lower-left corner of the Ride Command display.

4. Under the general settings menu, scroll down and select UPDATE SOFTWARE.

5. Select the software file and follow the on-screen instructions. This may take a few minutes to complete.

Note that Update Software under the general settings menu also will show you the current version of software installed on your Ride Command display. This file name includes the date, in this case Oct. 25, 2018.

On your model year 2019 and older motorcycle:

1. Connect the USB drive (with new software downloaded) to the USB cable in the storage compartment above the display.

2. Go to the settings menu on your Ride Command display. To get there, touch the Indian Motorcycle button at the top of the screen.

3. After you’ve accessed the drop-down menu, hit the settings button in the upper-right corner.

4. Under the general settings menu, scroll down and select UPDATE SOFTWARE.

5. Select the software file and follow the on-screen instructions. This may take a few minutes to complete.

Note that UPDATE SOFTWARE under the general settings menu also will show you the current version of software installed on your Ride Command display. This file name includes the date, in this case June 28, 2017.

FTR 1200 Software Update
To update the software on model year 2019 and newer FTR 1200 models with a 4.3-inch Ride Command display:

1. Download the update from the Ride Command website. A wired internet connection is recommended, if available.

2. The downloaded file does not need to be opened or run on your computer. It only needs to be copied to a USB drive.

3. Save the update file to a removable USB drive. FAT32 or exFAT format is supported.

4. Hook the bike up to a trickle charger before starting the download.

5. In the Settings, disable the “Automatic Display Power Down.” Press SETTINGS > VEHICLE > AUTOMATIC DISPLAY POWER DOWN.  

6. Plug the USB drive into your vehicle's USB port and turn on the display. 

7. Push the APP TRAY hard button in the middle of the left side of the screen. Then press SETTINGS.

8. Press GENERAL, the second tab from the left.

9. Scroll down to UPDATE SOFTWARE.

10. Select the file you want to install. "Newest" will be automatically displayed next to the newest version detected on the USB drive.

11. The display will reboot and install the software.

Updating Indian Motorcycle Maps
For your model year 2020 and newer touring or bagger motorcycle:

1. Go to ridecommand.indianmotorcycle.com and log in or create an account.

2. Go to the GARAGE tab and enter the VIN for your motorcycle.

3. Click on the MAP & SOFTWARE UPDATES link on the left side of the screen.

4. Click on the 2020 TOURING AND BAGGER display link.

5. Click the UPDATE MAP button.

6. Choose the region for which the map has to be downloaded.

7. Enter your email address if it is not already filled out.

8. Click NEXT.

9. If your bike has maps within two years of purchase and no scratch code is required, skip to step 12. If not, enter your scratch code for redemption.

10. Click UPGRADE MAP.

11. Confirm.

12. Verify that you receive an email with the subject "We are preparing your map update."

13. Wait approximately 30 minutes for another email. This one will have the subject "Your map update is ready to download." Click on the DOWNLOAD MAP link in the email and begin the download process. A wired internet connection is preferred if available. The map package is approximately 25GB.

14. Save the update file to a USB drive. FAT32 or exFAT formats are supported.

15. Connect the USB drive (with new map downloaded) to the USB cable in the storage compartment of your motorcycle above the display.

16. In the Settings, disable the “Automatic Display Power Down.” Press SETTINGS > VEHICLE > AUTOMATIC DISPLAY POWER DOWN.  

17. Go to the settings menu on your Ride Command display. To get there, touch the Indian Motorcycle button at the top of the screen.

18. After you’ve accessed the drop-down menu, hit the settings button in the lower-left corner of the Ride Command display.

19. Under the general settings menu, scroll down and select UPDATE MAPS.

Update Maps

20. Select the maps file and follow the on-screen instructions. The map update can take 20 to 30 minutes.

21. The display will reboot and install the software. Make sure the USB is not ejected before the map update has completed and the display has rebooted on its own.

On your model year 2019 and older motorcycle:

1. Connect the USB drive to the USB cable in the storage compartment above the display.

2. Go to the settings menu on your Ride Command display. To get there, touch the Indian Motorcycle button at the top of the screen.

3. After you’ve accessed the drop-down menu, hit the settings button in the upper-right corner.

4. Under the general settings menu, scroll down and select UPDATE MAPS.

5. Select CREATE KEY in the pop-up menu. Disconnect the USB when completed.

On your computer:

1. Connect the USB drive (with key on it) to your computer, visit ridecommand.indianmotorcycle.com and log in or create an account.

2. Once logged in, scroll to the bottom of the screen to and click on the UPDATE VEHICLE SOFTWARE link.

3. Launch the Map Update application on your computer, available for Windows or Mac, at the top of the screen.

4. Follow the instructions in the Map Update application. When it is finished, remove the USB drive.

Return to your motorcycle:

1. Reconnect the USB drive to the USB cable in the storage compartment above the display.

2. Go to the settings menu and select UPDATE MAPS.

3. Select UPDATE MAPS in the pop-up menu and follow the on-screen instructions. This may take up to 30 minutes to complete.

Note that UPDATE MAPS under the general settings menu also will show you the current version of maps installed on your Ride Command display. This file name includes the date, in this case March 1, 2017.

NOTE: If an invalid file error or invalid map update error occurs, it may be due to a bad USB drive or an error during the download. Try a new USB drive. If the same error occurs, download from a wired connection instead of over WiFi. If problems persist, contact Customer Service at 877-204-3697.
