Fun Bike but rough running
The only 2 negatives is they run very rough at start up and die out frequently until warm.
It is a very tall bike for shorter riders.

Awesome bike
Ive owned this bike for about 3 months. Was hard not to get on it during break in. Its a blast, corners well. Indian is killing the motorcycle industry with its top notch quality and reasonable pricing model.

Plenty of torque behind that throttle. She’s mean and very agile, and boy what a looker. You get people from all walks of life checking out this gorgeous bike. Only thing I can say, is if you like superbikes, this bike is not for you.

The best bike I've ever owned!
Overall, the FTR is leaps and bounds beyond my expectations. Aesthetically, is amazing. The engine is my favorite part. So much TORQUE everywhere! I also think the build quality is tremendous. It handles very well for tight roads and ergonomically, is very comfortable.
Two issues are all I could find. Cold start engine performance is...terrible. This only impacts the first 3 minutes, but it needs to be fixed. Also, the suspensions a bit stiff from the factory. But thats it for gripes! For an entire bike, thats awesome.

Surprising punch
The engine delivers good low end power, then revs into a midrange punch that is great fun. Not having to run into high rpms makes carving up curvy roads a blast. Handling is right on, bringing confidence to those tight curves where I ride. The cruise control is a pleasant surprise I never thought I would use, and it makes the straight roads and hills relaxing. I love mix of gloss black, satin black and subtle chrome of my bike.

A good start!
I test road an FTR at Barber vitage fest. Much quicker handling that the long wheelbase would suggest. I loved the quality fit and finish.
The motor was not comfortable at 80+ MPH. Too many vibes and did not feel comfortable there. Any motorcycle now days has to feel comfortable there. That is where freeway speeds are.

I actually rode an FTR 1200
Really liked the bike. Easy to ride, sounded good, was comfortable. Ride route was a good mix of roads. But there was a lot of heat coming off the engine, that's my only complaint.

Great bike.
Who ever made the internet questionnaire is a dope. I test rode almost all the new 2020 bikes, this questionnaire shows only 2018 bikes. It's not even showing the FTR1200 as an option for review. The demo truck was awesome, and the people were very knowledgeable and helpful. I also tried to add a photo, but the "file size is too large". The bikes are great.

Indian FTR 1200
The Indian FTR 1200 delivers as it should. It has plenty of power. The suspension was on the stiff side which I liked. My only gripe with the setup is that it had a slight sportbike feel to the seat in that it was leaning forward.

I test road a FTR flat track bike and it had great response. 123 hp gets you moving quickly. Handling was good. The foot pegs felt odd but I ride a cruiser bike. Hand grips feel small but probably ok with gloves on. Radiator put a lot of heat on my legs. Good torque, acceleration is good in high gear, I didn’t have to down shift much.

FTR 1200 review
Test rode a FTR in Sturgis. What an awesome bike!!! Tons of power and features and lots of aftermarket accessories. I currently ride a Victory Boardwalk but came off of sport touring bikes, the FTR handles and pulls like a sport bike with a comfortable riding position

FTR review no selection available
I thought the suspension was too stiff, set on medium, I would love to see this bike in a 700 cc or smaller. The seat height was a bit too tall for me at 5'9". There was way too much power, I currently ride a 1200cc Tenere. Offering a 700cc with a high pipe, keeping the weight very very light would be a winner. Please consider this as we older riders need LIGHT bikes, that aren't too tall. I think it was a great first effort. I am in the market for a bike that I described.

There wasn’t an option to select the FTR 1200, so I had to choose the scout. What can I say that hasn’t already been written. My only gripes are that the nearest dealer is an hour away. Also, the wheel size limits tire choice; I’d like the ability to spoon I so
Some sportier rubber. Other than that, it’s a winner.

Awesome Bike, Brap Brap!
Awesome bike! This is one of the funnest bikes I've owned. It is extremely well put together with lots of attention to detail. There are a lot of aftermarket accessories available. The Indian branded accessories are very well built. General maintenance looks very easy to do myself. It handles extremely well in the twisties even though its got a lot of ground clearance. And it's a real attention getter. I get stopped all the time when people realize it's an Indian. This bike will bring the brand a whole new customer set.

Excellent bike with tons of potential
The Indian FTR 1200S Race Replica completely rekindled my love for riding. The past year or so I just wasn't riding much but now I want to be on the bike when ever possible. The fully adjustable suspension made fitting the bike to me a breeze. The bike handles well, has tons of power and stops on a dime. The stock seat is plenty comfortable I can easily sit through a tank of fuel without stopping. The engine sounds great and is very responsive. The touch screen display is easy to read and works in all lighting conditions, I really like it. I can't wait for spring so I can get back on the road with this. Wow, what a machine!! I think if you are considering this bike, take it for a ride and see what you think. You won't be disappointed.
There are some cons though. The factory tuning leaves something to be desired. It starts poorly when the bike is cold requiring 2 or 3 restarts. At constant speed and steady throttle it runs lumpy. It stalls sometimes after long deceleration in low gears presenting a very dangerous situation. These running issues are known problems by the community and Indian. A recent re-flash of the ECU was offered by Indian but it made no difference. I had to solve this by buying a tuner and flashing in an aftermarket map (Hence my 4 star rating). The fuel tank is too small and is a pain to fill, it would be nice to get more than 120 miles between stops. Because of the shape of the tank you can only trickle fuel in a little at a time and it tends to burp gas all over your paint. The touch screen display really should function with ride command providing GPS and such. I was really bummed about the lack of options with the display, you can answer your phone and toggle music but that's about it. If you have a head set (which you need to talk on the phone anyway) those features already exist. Indian's Ride Command needs to be fully integrated, it's silly that it's not.

I traded in my KTM 1090 for this bike just due to size. This is no adventure bike but it still has a lot of potential. It came with all of the accessories to make it the Rally minus the wheels and it performs much like an adventure bike if you add the right tires. The Pirellis that you can buy are great. The tech on the bike is great. This is smooth to ride and still has enough suspension travel if you aren't a HARD off roader.

OEM tune is a joke
The bike a beautiful and almost a piece of art. However after riding the bike now for a few months, I am highly unimpressed and have stopped riding altogether. The tune that comes on the bike from factory is atrocious. The bike constantly stalls out on me at idle and at speed when I let off the gas and pull in the clutch while still moving at a high rate of speed. The tune also causes the bike to lurch and jerk at slower speeds which is highly dangerous if you are on a grave road. Do better Indian

Super fun ride
This bike is aweoame! You can have a blast and you don't need to be doing land speed records.
I love this ride. I have owned the FTR for about 6 weeks . Handles very well . This bike is a great back roads bike, loves the twisties.
One item that hopefully gets addressed by Indian is the fuel mapping issue with cold start stalling and the engine randomly shutting off when coming to a stop.
I have owned many fuel injected bikes over the last two decades and own current model bikes from other manufacturers with no such issues.
Apart from that i have zero regrets . It's a great bike , love every minute of riding it.

Fun to ride
Bike is great. My only gripe is that tilt runs really rough and misfires until it is warm. Which can take a few minutes to warm up. I like how tall it is for a naked frame. Also really great torque and the touchscreen is cool. Wish it had hand warmers for colder mornings.

Worst mistake I ever made.
I purchased this bike on August 12th 2020. I got to ride it a couple times. Bike had oil leak behind front sprocket. Took to dealer 3bhours one way from my house. Dealer had bikev2 weeks. Went back to dealer picked up bike got home still had same oil leak. Now has been diagnosed as a porous casting oil is leaking through side case. Dealer says he would not be able to fix it until end of November. Indian is going to ship to another dealer but will still be without brand new bike for 2 to 3 months. Worst motorcycle purchase ever. Worst dealer experience ever. There are going to be more FTRs with this problem.

I haven’t had a chance to ride it much yet. So far I love it. My only real complaint is the fact there is no fuel gauge. That really surprises me there isn’t one and I don’t understand why that would be left out. Once the low fuel light comes on you don’t have very many miles left before you run out of gas. I reset my trip odometer to keep track of my gas situation. That’s my only complaint and it’s not a game changer. Overall I love the bike.

Everything I Wanted In a Cruiser
I purchased my Scout Sixty in Ruby Red with ABS one month ago. I’m already at the break in maintenance mileage. Can’t stay off the bike, which is a great problem to have. I’m back in to riding after a 25 year break and spent a while researching my options for a bike in this class. My previous bikes were all under 500 cc and only one was a street bike, but this time I knew I wanted a bike that made a statement with looks and performance. The Sixty scores high in both categories. Other experienced big tourer and cruiser riders are surprised at the power and performance from a 1000cc bike. Regardless of experience level and even non-riders love the styling. This bike was so easy to get the hang of and get comfortable with even when coming back from essentially a level 2 or 3 out of 10, but I can tell that there is a lot of untapped performance remaining for me to grow in to. I definitely don’t feel like this is a stepping
stone or entry level bike that I’ll need to upgrade from. I think I’ll have it for the long term and love it more after every ride. (Ps...I’ve added a 19” QR windshield, changed to a tan leather seat (instead of black), upgraded to the LED Scout Pathfinder headlight, Indian floorboards to replace the pegs, and put on the Indian
solo rack and Indian Highway bars both in chrome and now saving for the Indian brand saddlebags)

Room for improvement
I purchased on 10/24 & wish dealers included fitment in the deal. Being 5'2", I'm still struggling to get a good safe and comfortable fit on this bike. Everything is very over priced and after just purchasing a brand new bike it is discouraging to have to shell out so much more to be able to ride it comfortably and safely. Add on any labor and delays or stocking issues at the dealer and I have had my share of buyers remorse to be honest. The clutch lever is so stiff and hard to reach that I'm now developing some serious chronic pain in my left hand/wrist. Too many fit issues and parts changed and still without finding the right combination for comfort, to list. Love the bike in theory. The look, the sound, the idea of it but not worth much if I can't ride it without significant pain and difficulty operating.

Newbie rider loving the bike overall
I'm a brand new rider and ordered this bike even before I had my license. I now have about 1,700 miles on this bike in a couple of months. I had researched it well in advance. I originally ordered a scout 60 but this one came in stock first and I went with it. So glad I did as this is not too much engine for a newbie like me.
I like that I'm not hunched over like I would have been on the bobber.
I do not like the stock seat or suspension. Seat is painful to me after 30 minutes and hitting any bumps is bone jarring on the spine. I'm upgrading both eventually.
The stock exhaust sounds like a vacuum cleaner is running so I installed slip-ons myself.
I wish all Indians came with the headdress on the tank. I removed my Indian Scout badge, went bare a bit, then added the headdress.
I think the Scout is also the only bike that doesn't come with floorboards but rather just pegs. I've ordered these to upgrade.
I'm annoyed that in order to change the air filter you must remove the gas tank. What a major pain that is going to be.
I do wish the fuel tank was a bit bigger as I seem to have to fill up ever 120 miles or so to be safe.
Overall, I love the way it rides and I've even had Harley owners stop and tell me they were thinking of switching, this bike looked cool, etc. Love the ride overall.
(Tried uploading photos but no matter what I did I could not meet this site's guidelines. Too tall, too narrow, too large.)

40+ Years of riding, absolute best I've ridden!
I have ridden and owned all type of bikes in my lifetime and recently had back surgery. After trying different seats and modifications to my HD Dyna I had given up riding as nothing we tried helped eliminate major pain in my back while riding. I tried the 2021 Scout and no more rough suspensions that my back can't deal with! In two months I have put almost 3 thousand miles on it. Way less expensive than Harley and way more bang for your buck. I absolutely love this bike and would recommend it to any rider, especially small women like myself. It is light, quick and handles extremely well.

Fun to ride
Got this bike in August, put about 1,700 clicks on her. This bike is awesome. Fits my riding style perfect. I use it to commute to work and back. It handles so nice and the power... makes it really fun to ride. Being so low to the ground gives it extra stability which comes in handy for working your way through long lines of traffic through an intersection.

2021 Indian Scout - I LOVE IT!
I fell in love with the Indian Scout when I sat on it at a Toronto Motorcycle show. I bought a 2019 Indian Scout Sixty and loved it but felt like I was missing a gear so I traded it in and upgraded to a 2021 Indian Scout for the six speed transmission. Best motorcycle I've owned and I've been riding since 1981. I'm 5'2", I love the low seat height. The Scout is well balanced, handles great and is very comfortable to ride.

I could not be happier
I waited only 37 days from order to delivery. My dealer, Cycle Country, kept me informed me every step of the way. They made the process so easy. Then I got on the bike to ride it home and it was like driving a recliner. comfortable and fun to ride.

I bought this bike a month or so ago. Hard for me to say because I feel like I’ve had it forever. It fits me perfectly and responds to my every thought it seems. Still exploring the endless power. No problems yet and I am at 2000 miles in the San Diego backcountry, no freeway. I like the bike alot so far and look forward to spending at least a couple hours a day.

Nice
I love the color and the quality however this being an ICON should have had something special besides the paint job to make it stand out as a numbered bike. Also every Indian motorcycle should come with the war bonnet on the front fender, that's what makes it an Indian.

Great power and nimble
So, about 500 miles gone and I am consistently amazed at the handling and power of my Scout. The power almost catches me off guard when powering out of a turn as it really pulls when the rpm’s climb. And true, it’s not a sport bike, but it handles the turns much better than any other cruiser I’ve ridden.
I’ve made a few modifications to make it my own but people immediately spot it as an Indian. Silky smooth power and a great handler, what’s not to like?

Experienced rider enjoying retirement
I need a low center of gravity motorcycle that corners easily with the natural leaning action that comes from years of riding woods bikes and snowmobiles. The Scout is all about that. The position of the foot pegs Is perfect for my height (5’9”), and the handlebar bend works well. The Scout feels solid and sturdy on the highway, nimble and quick on back road curves, with the quick power to get me out of trouble if I need it. It’s a sweet ride!

2021 Indian Scout ABS
I purchased a 2021 Indian Scout ABS about a month ago, and must say I absolutely hate it. It feels comfortable for 20 minutes or so, basically long enough for a test drive, then the seat becomes absolutely painful. At first I thought it was just me, so had 2 other friends try it out, and they came to the same conclusion. Not sure if it’s just the factory seat, or what, but I would not buy this bike again. Power and handling are good, but when the seat gets too painful to sit on after 20 minutes what’s the point.

Plenty of horsepower
I bought the bike in April. I was torn between the Scout and the Scout Bobber. I landed on the Scout due mainly to the more upright rider position. I felt it matched my own style a little better. I love the power of the bike, and I also love how many people start up conversations with me about it.

I bought a 2021 Scout Bobber Twenty and I had never riden a motorcycle before. I did all my saftey classes and started out on my scout slowly through my neighborhood until I was comfortable with it. I now take it comfortably to work. (50mi. round trip). Haven't dropped it yet despite everyone saying you will always drop your 1st one. It is a very smooth ride on the roads and highways. Handles great, has quick power response when you need it. I like the accessory options like the upgraded headlight, thicker seat, floorboards, tach...ect. The only negatives I can say is that accessories for the bike through Indian are a little overpriced, the seat is not made for the long haul, and there is no steering lock equipped on it. I got the Twenty model because I really liked the retro look of the bike in general, but the spoked wheels and chromed highlights made it look even better and the 10" ape bars are a bit more comfortable, not needing to reach as far. Everything You Want
I bought my 2021 Scout Bobber Twenty about a month ago and put about 200 miles on it. The ride is fantastic. Plenty of power, great stance, and handles well. The only gripe is that the battery is crap. Already had to replace it. QC control sticker was dated 10/21 on the Polaris battery so it was already a couple of years old by time it got on my new bike.Great bike…check your battery.

This is my first Motorcycle in the USA, I love the control, it is really great.
I wanted to give 5 Star but because of the seat I cannot, as you will slide back when you throttle to shift gears. I know there are comfort seats available for an additional cost, but just buying and riding as it, the seats could have been a little better.

Excellent first bike!
I decided that I was too old to have never owned a motorcycle so I looked for a used 500cc bike to be a starter bike. Somehow I came across the Scout Bobber Sixty online and fell in love with it and, after absorbing many reviews, decided to look at one. I went to a few dealerships and when I saw the color I was looking for on the floor I immediately bought it. I love the styling; people take note on the road and I often get compliments at gas stations and parking lots. There is a lot of power but as a new rider I don't feel it will get away from me. It's low to the ground so I feel like it handles well and gives me appreciable command over it.

I have been riding over half my life and have had multiple street bikes from cruisers to rockets and this is my favorite. It is very snappy and handles like a dirt bike to me. Good, but you the owner have to make it great!
I was miraculously lucky enough to get my bobber after only 10 days of inquiring about one with my local dealer. The ISB is hand s down one of the most beautiful cruisers on the road. As with most people the only major complaints are the stock exhaust, stock shocks, and stock seat. Once those creature comforts are addressed, no other bike can match this one!

No complaints so far really. I removed a baffle to louden the pipes. I understand the reasons for them being quiet stock but easy to change. I need to bring the handle bars a bit closer so I'm a little less hunched. Both of these things are just part of fitting a bike so not an issue.

Great features….
I just picked my order up for a 2021 scout sixty bobber in slate blue. I got the brown seat and the highway bars and I am definitely NOT mad about it! This bike bites back with its power, looks sexy on the road and those highway bars were definitely a life saver when it came to attempting to take it off the trailer when it arrived home lol! It will be awesome to have the extra storage and foot rests there in the long run also! The best thing I can say about this bike is there are really great customizable options for all size riders!! Can’t wait to try out the new reduced reach for my pedals I’m getting soon and the ride is so smooth - you can’t hate but fall in love with this bike!!

Awesome Bike!
I get a ton of compliments and love expierencing the road on a bike.

Good bike, but outdated
It is a good bike, but it is not worth $18,000. The cruise control was on the right side of the handle bars, this causes unnecessary multitasking. The gauges were on the tank and I kept having to move my head up and down making it difficult to see. And it did not even come with Heel-toe shifting. My $9000 Suzuki comes with that, a windshield, and bags! The 111 is also Air Cooled. Triumph has a 2300 CC bike that is liquid cooled. I would only pay about $13,000 at the max, any more this bike is very little bang for your buck. It is simply outdated and overpriced.

Fun to ride but overall a disappointing experience
I bought my Pearl White 2016 Chief Classic new in May, 2016. It is comfortable and stylish, and sounds great. However, fit and finish in a few areas is not up to the level expected. The wiring loom connectors are all exposed without covers. I have fully avoided riding my Chief in wet weather, yet the fenders started to rust at the seams within the first year, and other signs of corrosion are evident... various brackets and screws are oxidized, and the Chief light mount on the front fender is corroding/rusting and the discoloration is apparent. The speedometer/dash cover, and headlight nacelle chrome is also pretty thin. The dash cover in particular has spider vein cracks that are noticeable in certain light conditions. Pretty much every single wiring loom connector is exposed, without any kind of cap or cover. The only time my Chief has been wet is when I've washed it, and I haven't needed to do that very often. I didn't expect such an expensive "premium" motorcycle to have these kinds of issues at all. Overall I enjoy riding the Chief and I get a lot of people asking about it, but the ownership experience has not been satisfying.

Much better than my "other" V-Twin.
I bought my 2015 Chief Classic as a dealer demo from Baker American Cycles in Fayetteville, N.C. It is the smoothest, most powerful, most refined, and beautiful motorcycle I have ever owned and I've been riding for 50 years! It draws attention wherever I ride it and gets 'thumbs up' from drivers on the highways. I will never go back to the other brand and this bike makes my other one feel like a paint shaker!! Don't get me wrong. I still like my other bike, but I absolutely LOVE my Indian and I ride it pretty much exclusively now!!!

2022 Dark Horse
I bought this 2022 Chief Dark horse about a month ago. So far I really like it. Ive put about 1400 miles on it and its been flawless. It has a lot of power and handles well. I enjoy it a lot. The headlight may need to be adjusted as its seems aimed a bit low for night time riding. The exhaust is to quiet, as all factory bikes are when you first get them. I plan to upgrade the exhaust in the future.

Excellent motorcycle!!
The Chief Darkhorse is my first venture into the American V-twin market. I *almost* went with a model from the other big boy on the block (the orange and black gang), but the Indian appealed to me across the board - power, tech, good looks, price, and the salespeople don’t call you “dude” and “bruh” while “Born to be Wild” blares throughout the dealership. The Chief isn’t perfect, but I’m sure it’ll smooth out after it’s been out for a year or so.
Pros: awesome torque that makes power no matter your rpm’s; comfortable riding position; solid gearbox; the ride command is awesome; classic, nostalgic styling; beautiful motor; quality parts throughout; infinitely customizable.
Cons: the wait to get one……; the complete lack of Indian branded aftermarket parts (EVERYTHING is on back order); the grab point of the clutch lever is too far out (makes friction zone slow stuff challenging); THE RIDE COMMAND PHONE APP DOESN’T COMMUNICATE WITH THE RIDE COMMAND ON THE BIKE; the Bluetooth connection is a little wonky (phone/headset connections come and go); the factory exhaust note is weeeeaaaakkk (my wife told me it needed a new exhaust when we got home from the dealership).
Overall, yes, I’d definitely buy the bike again without hesitation. I’m a little miffed it was released before the cons were ironed out, but I’m sure it’ll happen soon. When the bugs are worked out I’ll raise my score to 5 stars!

2022 Chief DH for 6' tall guy
I got the DH over the DH bobber or Super Chief because i liked the rims and Jade Smoke the most. When I ordered the bike I also ordered the Stake 1&2, higher seat and forward controls. (Would have got the Super if they had the color and rims I wanted). None of the parts came in with the bike. Wont be here until August (got the bike in May) but that another issue with Indian for another time. I am 6' tall before boots. I am a bit squished feeling on the bike. I have to reach pretty far forward for the bars and the mid controls arent comfortable after a few hours. The extended reach bars and the forward controls are going to fix any problems I will have with fit. My gf is 5'3" and she has even harder time reaching the bars but loves the controls and weight (she has a '13 softail slim).
The look is perfect. I get compliments everywhere I go. I cannot stop taking pictures of it .
The engines..... I am a newer rider but I've ridden the HD 103ci and 1100cc VTX and 750cc Shadow. This bike is much better in turns, easier to ride and the power is AMAZING. I haven't even put it in sport mode yet. Not sure I need the stages but go bug or go home right! The GF rode the DH to compare to the Softail Slim and said the DH will be here next bike for sure. Converted another from the dark side.
In summary, if you're taller get the forward controls and the extended reach bars or the Super Chief.
Leaving HD in the dust, priceless!!!!

Just the right bike
I have dreamed of owning a motorcycle for years. Once I saw a vintage Indian I knew I would someday own an Indian bike. I read the books and took the training classes. I got my endorsement and started shopping bikes. Finally my finances were in order and I was ready to make a purchase. The owner of my local Indian dealership took his time to show me many models and features, including a bike similar to the Chieftain I had seen all those years ago that put me on this path. After hearing me talk, and seeing what I was interested in, he guided me to the new Chief. Sitting on it felt just right. The lighter weight was a big buying point, while still being a bigger bike. I am a 300 lb guy and the smaller Scout just didn’t feel right for me. I opted for the Dark Horse for the electronics upgrades and the bigger engine. The ride modes gave me some confidence in being able to use tour mode until I was ready for a sportier shift and acceleration. The bike handles very well quickly giving me confidence taking off and making turns. For as elaborate as the electronics are, they are not confusing or distracting. I will probably open up the exhaust later for a little louder sound. The bike is clean and simple, yet grabs attention for its perfectly balanced style. I am definitely looking forward to some of the optional accessories to be available. I am still learning, as I would imagine everyone is to some degree. I couldn’t have picked a better bike for me to start this adventure on.

Great Ride
Bought my Chief from work (Indian dealership) and the assistance was GREAT! I love the power, the comfort, the looks! Great maintenance and easy to work on. I do not like that the accessories are taking to long to arrive. One thing I would improve is the design of the handle controls; The buttons are too far apart and the signal button leaves a discomfort sensation on the thumb if not wearing gloves. Overall, amazing ride!

Awesome Bike!
I preordered my Chief Dark Horse in March and received it in the middle of April. I upgraded from a Harley Sportster and the two bikes aren’t even in the same universe. The Indian is superior in every detail and feature. It rides and shifts smoother, has all the features for riding long distance, and has plenty of power. The only thing I would change is a deeper more throaty exhaust. The stock exhaust is too quiet for me.

I’m fortunate enough to of been able to ride some of everything in the few short years I’ve been riding. Indian has been gunning for HD hard the last couple years, but this bike is coming at the performance cruiser market as a whole. It’s going to take a couple years but I think the Dyna is going to be unseated as the go to platform to build off of. I’ve already done some mods to my bike and it’s an incredibly easy platform to work with. Well done with this one Indian.

2020 Indian Chief Dark Horse - Ownership Review
I purchased my new 2020 Indian Chief Dark Horse Motorcycle a month ago and have enjoyed the transition from the smaller frame Scout to the larger Chief. The comfort features (i.e. - cruise control, fuel gauge, floor boards, etc.) are very nice and function well. The riding position is comfortable and the adjustable air suspension soaks up even the roughest of roads. The Chief frame is heavy by most standards and as such is clumsy / awkward while in city traffic. Once on the highway, the bike is very balanced and easy to handle. The engine power is adequate but unimpressive under hard acceleration. The addition of the stage 1 intake and exhaust system will likely improve the performance characteristics to be on-par with the competition but the purchase price of the desired OEM Indian parts is very high, as compared to other competitors. Overall the new bike is rock solid and enjoyable to ride. It is well poised on the highway and somewhat predictable in urban settings. Indian should consider adding a factory performance option package (Stage 1 or 2), that could be purchase up front by the buyer at an affordable price. It doesn't make sense, from an owner's perspective, to buy an Indian product and to automatically always assume that you will need to pay the dealer to tear you're brand new bike apart to make it run well from the factory.

It’s been about 6 weeks and I already have over 2k miles on it. Love this bike, plenty of power, great handling. It gets a lot of attention, that’s why it was only right to add a passenger seat. Been staring at the Chief Dark horse for a couple years now and finally pulled the trigger. No regrets whatsoever. Indian also has a great veterans deal which was a nice bonus.

Fantastic motorcycle
The Chief Dark Horse is a great motorcycle, it's my 3rd Indian and looks great next to my Scout and Roadmaster. The Dark Horse handles wonderfully, is very quick and responsive, and I love the blacked out finish and minimalistic look. I would recommend the backrest to enhance the comfort at highway speeds.

Unbelievable handling!
In addition to my Indian Springfield, I currently own a 1984 HD FXST (first year Softail). I have also owned a 1982 Honda VF750F, a 1979 HD FLH, a 2000 HD Roadking, and a 2006 HD VRSCR. Other riding experience includes various dirt bikes, and a week on a rented 2014 HD full dresser.
With all that time on two wheels, I can attest that I am more comfortable diving deep into turns on this Springfield (just over 1000 miles in 6 weeks) than any other machine. The handling is superb!
In addition, it does not feel as massive and as heavy as it is. I can literally thrown it around at normal backroad speeds (35-50 mph) as a bike weighing half as much to get around those Pennsylvania potholes.
I don’t know how Indian got the frame geometry right, but it is a thing of beauty to ride this machine.
With the Stage 2 installed, the torque is ample, and there is plenty of pull in the midrange for pleasure riding. I can easily keep up with my son’s Indian Challenger (also Stage 2) until he hits the horsepower at round 4000 rpm. (He’s got some 130 to my 100 hp.)

My first road bike - and it's an absolute winner!
I just turned 56 this year and I felt it was time to achieve the longtime dream I've had of owning a road bike. I used to ride dirt bikes when I was younger, so I knew I could handle a larger bike, especially with my 6'2" frame. I also knew that the bike would be American made. I had two choices basically. A Harley, or an Indian. After checking out both lines, I just could not keep my eye off of this new 2019 (old stock) Springfield. It appealed to me more than I can explain here. I did a lot of research, through reading and watching videos, and I ultimately concluded it was the perfect fit for me.
After making my purchase, I quickly learned all that was necessary to ride the bike safely, and to have fun at the same time. I have to tell you that it lived up to all of my expectations. It's not only beautiful to look at, but the power, control and overall feel are outstanding.
Now on to my minor complaints. First, I was getting horrible buffeting while riding at highway speeds, especially directly into the wind. I learned that installing the small wind deflectors near the forks would eliminate this issue, and they did - completely. Honestly, these deflectors should be standard! Next, one of the screw holes for the seat mounting bolts was not fully cut, preventing the bolt from being fully screwed in. But the dealer where I had my first 500 mile checkup fixed that.
I've added a lot of things to my new bike, including aftermarket pipes (which really brought out the sound of this bike), brighter LED headlight and passing lights, engine heat shield, extra LED brake light strips, and a few other things to "dress" my baby up. Needless to say, she gets a LOT of attention, especially from the HD riders! People compliment her all the time.
I have to tell you that if you are a tall person and want a bagger, you just can't pass up the Indian Springfield. It's smokin' hot and riding it is like a dream come true.

Loads of chrome
Was happy to find a difficult color, put 500 miles on getting used to the ride. Had first oil change at 550 miles brought it home and now I wait for warranty work. That’s right 600 miles won’t start, turns it’s power on all by itself. Has a short some where low tire, chasis warning and ABS warnings stay on. I’ll wait on any recommendations.

Smooth ride
I bought this bike about five weeks ago. I’ve been riding mainly sport bikes for the last 40 years and this is my first cruiser. I checked out Harley Davidson before a checked out Indian. After riding both brands and buying an Indian I can say that the fit, finish, accessories and handling are superb. Anyone looking for a cruiser bike, I would not hesitate to recommend this ride, it’s comfortable, great power and surprisingly nimble for it’s size.

Fantastic Bike
I was going to buy the Scout. Opted instead for the Springfield. Couldn't be happier was the choice. It's extremely comfortable. The locking side bags are large enough to carry everything I need and are very convenient. Removable windshield is great cause I can take it off on shorter rides and get that "complete freedom" with the wind in my face, but it also snaps on quickly for longer rides. Driving modes are awesome. Supreme power when I want that rough feeling and also easy going when I just want to cruise. Love the bike.

Love (Almost) Everything About It
My new 2020 Indian Springfield is my dream bike. It's my ideal cruiser: big engine, great sound, plenty of storage and plenty of gleaming chrome. It's been my dream bike for years and I love it.
Maybe the only downside so far is that the engine isn't quite as smooth as I'd hoped. After hearing and reading about people going crazy about how smooth the engine is I was disappointed to find that my bike was the exception to the rule. Smooth overall but at certain RPMs (around 2,250 -2,350 for months, now recently changed to around 1,950-2,100 for some unknown reason) it runs very roughly and causes enough vibration to numb your foot. Oddly enough it can be felt much more on the right side than the left. I took it to the dealer and it got a clean bill of health. I seems that these are just the engine harmonics of my particular bike. I'm trying not to let it bother me but I'd be lying if I said that it doesn't. Other than that it's just about perfect.

Perfect versatility
I originally came looking at Indian because I liked the Vintage. My wife liked the idea of a trunk and more comfy backrest for long trips. If I could have 2 bikes, I might do a Roadmaster and a Vintage, but the Springfield really covers a ton of ground, and was the best middle ground. It can be fit with the trunk, or a regular sissy bar, or quick release that and the windshield for a low mean look. I don't miss the fairing electronics, we have bluetooth in the helmets and I have a perfectly good phone mount for nav.
As for the Springfield, it rides better than anything I have ridden. Plenty of power, the handling is great for the size of the bike, and the weight distribution is perfect. It really is the perfect bike for me.

It's a great bike. It looks good. It sounds good. It has plenty of power. The handling is excellent. The little things like electronic bag lock, tire pressure monitoring and warning system, kick stand warning light, and the fact that the gear position is always displayed are all very nice features. Even the tire stem valves are at a 90 degree angle so that it's easier to add air. Indian Motorcycles also have an easy to use web site that makes contains all the information and documentation about your bike.

It's a Springfield... Not a Scout
I own a Scout, a Scout Sixty and now a Springfield Dark Horse. This new SFDH is fantastic. So different than the Scout, so not sure why some try to compare. Apples & Oranges. Having said that, the SFDH has very good acceleration, especially in Sport Mode. It rides so smooth and is so comfortable at higher speeds and even in higher winds. Exhaust was a little quiet so I changed that quickly to Tab Performance. I love my Scouts, and I really love the SFDH. It's a beast, but in a very good way.

Glad I didn’t buy a Harley
Was looking for my first motorcycle. Determined to buy the Harley-Davidson Road King Special. Spent many hours at the dealer figuring my dream bike. I saw the Indian and decided I might as well go look and just see all my options. The moment I saw the bike on the showroom I immediately fell in love. Looked at the sales rep and told him to get the paperwork going.
Extremely happy with my bike. I have had it for a little over a month and was waiting to get my license. Once I got my license I put 500 miles on it in a work week. Easy to maintain, ride is fantastic and I am averaging 52mpg riding to and from work.
After owning this bike I don’t think I will ever go to a different brand. Love the Heritage and love being able to ride my bike and not trying to look like a “Harley guy”.
Highly recommend this bike to everyone I talk to!!
The only thing I wish was that the dealership I purchased from was like the Harley store. I cannot take my bike in for routine maintenance on Saturdays, there is no energy there (Harley dealer was exciting and events going on every Saturday), no riding or dealership events offered. Very boring and a place I don’t like to spend a lot of time. When you are there it feels like you are wasting their time and you don’t matter anymore. Thinking about going to another dealership 2.5hours away or open my own.

You won't be disappointed!
I come from about 18 years of sports bikes and this is my first cruiser. I chose this because I'm used to power at will, looks menacing, and it handles very well even at low speeds. The stock sound of the exhaust is passable. I understand these would need to pass emissions to sell. Fit and finish is superb. The matte finish is very easy to clean. Easy to work on, and Indian has maintenance tutorials on youtube. I would recommend this to anyone looking at big cruisers. I look forward to my weekend rides with my friends, one of them even bought a Scout because I was so happy with my Indian. I originally was considering the Chieftain but I would never use the touch screen and the speaker system because I have a Cardo comm. I like the minimalist design and the blacked out look on this SDH. Everything about this bike speaks quality. I really like how smooth it rides and not too much vibration like Harley models have. Comfortable seats, and posture. Rev matching is very easy to do. It has a built in alarm system and lockable hard bags. I've owned many bikes and this is the only one that made me smile as I rode off the dealership. The dealership staff is very easy to work with. Sagebrush Smoke color is what sealed the deal for me.
Of course this wouldn't be a review without cons. I like using synthetic oil on all of my machines. Indian recommends 15w60 for synthetic and it's hard to find on other brands. I don't want to use the common 20w50 and have a possibility of clutch slippage. The aftermarket support on these is not as robust as Harley, but I expected that. The clutch pull is harder than what I'm used to. The gas tank wobbles a bit, I still haven't had time to check out if the bolts are loose. A brand new bike with only 500 miles shouldn't have this issue. There are so much emblems that say Indian on it. At the price we pay, the headlights should be LED.

Bough in February 2020. It’s been raining in Florida & I no longer enjoy thunderstorm rides... engine is louder than stock pipes. fit & finish are great except for bags - they leak so stuff gets wet in the rain & after washing. A better seal and liners would be nice. Performance, handling and features are perfect for me. It’s light for a bagger. I’m only just getting to the 500 mile mark but so far very happy with the purchase.

Great
I purchased my 2019 Springfield Darkhorse in mid July and couldn’t be happier. I originally planned to get a Road King Darkhorse and spent months researching. I stumbled on a comparison between the RKS and the Springfield Darkhorse which piqued my curiosity. Further reviews and rides pushed me completely over to the Darkhorse and I haven’t had a single regret. I added the Rogue seat which my wife says is way more comfortable than the RKS, and get a ton of compliments on the overall look. If you want a Harley and are set on it, get a Harley. But if you want something unique, with style, functionality, performance, and reliability, definitely check out an Indian.

Great bike
Purchased just over a month ago and racked up just over 1,400 miles now. I love this motorcycle. It has the look I wanted and the comfort I needed. It’s well made, looks awesome, and feels great on the road. I only have two complaints. First the exhaust, though it sounds good is way to quiet. I’m not looking for obnoxiously loud just to be loud, I want more volume for safety. Cars on an expressway can not hear this bike next to them, and that’s just dangerous for the rider. My last issue is low speed. It doesn’t like to go slow and is tends to be jerky with low speed maneuvers. Beyond those two issues right out of the crate this bike checks all the boxes. I plan to ride it for a long time to come. Good job Indian! Keep up the good work.

Quality control
Bought the Chieftain in November and by December it was in the shop . It was having intermittent valve train tapping like the lifters weren't pumped up . Took a video of it and the dealer wasn't able to replicate it. Overall I loved the bike just hate that it was having issues at 600 miles .

No Issues
Bought my Chieftain Classic Nov., 2018. After many long trips and over 17,000 miles, no major issues. Dealer installed Stage 1 performance kit with fish tail endcaps, heated handgrips and seat. Runs good. Still no issues. Its a keeper. I expect to put on over 100k miles and more. Ride the dang thing. Let's roll!

Great bike.
The radio has quit working a few times and currently does not work. The clip holding down the dash storage compartment broke the first week.
Ergonomics could improve. Handlebars could be moved back, along with floor boards.
Backrest is a must for long rides.
I found the pipes drag often. I adjusted the rear shock and it still drags leaving my driveway and when cornering.
Plastic side panels below the seat need better fastened. The left one blew off riding down the road. I luckily caught it when it flipped up.

Love the bike
This bike has been amazing. But that being said some features weren’t there that I was told were with my model. That was a bit frustrating. The CarPlay option is also a joke. I hope in coming months they do a better job making it available.
After first service was done I get error codes almost every ride now. Check engine light, chassis fault error, battery flashing. Dealer suggests just turning it off and back on says it’s normal after first service. I’d rather no what’s causing these things to through errors but Oh well

I’m sure its nice if I ever get it.
I bought this bike 3 months ago and still don’t have it. Made 3 payments and watched the beautiful riding days slip by. Went to Minnesota to pick it up and 10 miles later it stalled and would not start. It’s been back at the dealer ever since.

Performance is outstanding
I purchases this bike approximately 2 months ago and now have approximate 2000 km on this bike. I love the overall performance and handling. Only real issue that I have had is it has stalled on me in first gear a couple of times as the bike tends to idle low at times.

Wanted this bike a long time
I enjoy this bike more every time I ride it.
One of the first things I noticed, and greatly appreciated, is its balance and how nimble it is. On my previous bike when I approached a red light, braking and down shifting, I had be careful about maintaining balance. Even just moving my foot up to the brake then down to the pavement could cause a wobble as I stopped, and then a struggle to push the bike up to vertical. None of that happens with the Chieftain. It glides to a stop and stays fully upright as it slowly rolls up to the white line. No struggle for me at all any more. Taking tight corners and more expanded curves is a breeze. It's light on its feet for a 900-pound motorcycle. I really appreciate that. And power? Whoa! Once I hit 5th gear and move into 6th, even slight throttle twists cause a burst of speed. I'm not an ultra fast rider, like some guys, but this thing can easily cruise an interstate at 75 mph with no sweat. And still have plenty of power for passing and quick lane changes. To me, it's amazing. 116 c.i., baby. I did have trouble with up shifting when the bike was new. It was really hard to get the transmission to shift into second gear, for example. Everybody said Indian builds them really tight that way on purpose so that over time as it loosens up it will still be tight and not loose and sloppy. I get that. So I installed the Pinnacle heel shifter. Problem solved. I love that thing!
My complaints all center around my personal comfort so they're really not a reflection on the bike, and I think they can all be solved. I'm not a fan of the newer Rogue "gunslinger" seat Indian put on many of their bikes. After 30 to 45 minutes of riding I have to get off and give my butt a break. Yes, it's hurting that bad. Five minutes off and I'm ready to get back on. So I need a better-built, more comfortable seat. Next issue is leg room. I'm 6'4" and weigh 263 lbs. I'm also 68 years old. I'm not interested in the Rogue extended reach seat for two reasons. One, it's another Rogue seat. Two, I can't use the driver back rest I paid $545 for. I'm looking at Indian's nicer extended reach seat (also can't use back rest) or one of several after market seats that can include a driver back rest. Also, under the heading of leg room, I have to mention Indian's infinite highway pegs. I had highway pegs on my last bike and loved them. But with these new pegs I've already moved them three times and can't find a position on the bar that gives my legs or my butt/back any relief. They are almost a wasted purchase at $300.
Despite the complaints the bottom line is my 2020 Indian Chieftain is one great motorcycle. Lots of things to really love about it and only a couple of issues to get adjusted to make it perfect for me.

Overall great bike
I bought this bike in May. I couldnt be happier im glad i made the purchase. With that said i have some bones to pick. How do you offer tpsm reading on the ride command but dont have the actual sensors on all your 2020s come on indian you can do better. And 2nd the ride command needs work how can you offer to move or change widgets but without the GPS module you cannot save them? They reset every time you shut the bike off! Again come on indian you have SOMETHING good but drop the Ball! Oh and offer the sage brush green for the chieftain!!!!!!!!!
