FTR

2019 Indian FTR 1200 Thunder Black is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 53.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome bike Ive owned this bike for about 3 months. Was hard not to get on it during break in. Its a blast, corners well. Indian is killing the motorcycle industry with its top notch quality and reasonable pricing model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome bike Plenty of torque behind that throttle. She’s mean and very agile, and boy what a looker. You get people from all walks of life checking out this gorgeous bike. Only thing I can say, is if you like superbikes, this bike is not for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best bike I've ever owned! Overall, the FTR is leaps and bounds beyond my expectations. Aesthetically, is amazing. The engine is my favorite part. So much TORQUE everywhere! I also think the build quality is tremendous. It handles very well for tight roads and ergonomically, is very comfortable. Two issues are all I could find. Cold start engine performance is...terrible. This only impacts the first 3 minutes, but it needs to be fixed. Also, the suspensions a bit stiff from the factory. But thats it for gripes! For an entire bike, thats awesome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprising punch The engine delivers good low end power, then revs into a midrange punch that is great fun. Not having to run into high rpms makes carving up curvy roads a blast. Handling is right on, bringing confidence to those tight curves where I ride. The cruise control is a pleasant surprise I never thought I would use, and it makes the straight roads and hills relaxing. I love mix of gloss black, satin black and subtle chrome of my bike.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good start! I test road an FTR at Barber vitage fest. Much quicker handling that the long wheelbase would suggest. I loved the quality fit and finish. The motor was not comfortable at 80+ MPH. Too many vibes and did not feel comfortable there. Any motorcycle now days has to feel comfortable there. That is where freeway speeds are.
Date published: 2019-10-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I actually rode an FTR 1200 Really liked the bike. Easy to ride, sounded good, was comfortable. Ride route was a good mix of roads. But there was a lot of heat coming off the engine, that's my only complaint.
Date published: 2019-10-07
Rated 2 out of 5 by from FTR 1200 sport bike I'm accustomed to an in line 4 cyl. The v twin does not have my kind of power range. To much vibration at cruising speeds.
Date published: 2019-09-29
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bike. Who ever made the internet questionnaire is a dope. I test rode almost all the new 2020 bikes, this questionnaire shows only 2018 bikes. It's not even showing the FTR1200 as an option for review. The demo truck was awesome, and the people were very knowledgeable and helpful. I also tried to add a photo, but the "file size is too large". The bikes are great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Indian FTR 1200 The Indian FTR 1200 delivers as it should. It has plenty of power. The suspension was on the stiff side which I liked. My only gripe with the setup is that it had a slight sportbike feel to the seat in that it was leaning forward.
Date published: 2019-09-19
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rode the FTR 1200 Test rode on 9/17/2019. Would like to see Adventure touring styling on this bike and I would purchase. Too naked for the type of riding that I do. Engine is wonderful!!
Date published: 2019-09-18
Rated 3 out of 5 by from FTR model I test road a FTR flat track bike and it had great response. 123 hp gets you moving quickly. Handling was good. The foot pegs felt odd but I ride a cruiser bike. Hand grips feel small but probably ok with gloves on. Radiator put a lot of heat on my legs. Good torque, acceleration is good in high gear, I didn’t have to down shift much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FTR 1200 review Test rode a FTR in Sturgis. What an awesome bike!!! Tons of power and features and lots of aftermarket accessories. I currently ride a Victory Boardwalk but came off of sport touring bikes, the FTR handles and pulls like a sport bike with a comfortable riding position

Rated 4 out of 5 by from FTR review no selection available I thought the suspension was too stiff, set on medium, I would love to see this bike in a 700 cc or smaller. The seat height was a bit too tall for me at 5'9". There was way too much power, I currently ride a 1200cc Tenere. Offering a 700cc with a high pipe, keeping the weight very very light would be a winner. Please consider this as we older riders need LIGHT bikes, that aren't too tall. I think it was a great first effort. I am in the market for a bike that I described.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FTR 1200 DEMO VERY GOOD. ALREADY OWN DARKHORSE, SCOUT AND SCOUT 60
Date published: 2019-07-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from FTR 1200 There wasn’t an option to select the FTR 1200, so I had to choose the scout. What can I say that hasn’t already been written. My only gripes are that the nearest dealer is an hour away. Also, the wheel size limits tire choice; I’d like the ability to spoon I so Some sportier rubber. Other than that, it’s a winner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Bike, Brap Brap! Awesome bike! This is one of the funnest bikes I've owned. It is extremely well put together with lots of attention to detail. There are a lot of aftermarket accessories available. The Indian branded accessories are very well built. General maintenance looks very easy to do myself. It handles extremely well in the twisties even though its got a lot of ground clearance. And it's a real attention getter. I get stopped all the time when people realize it's an Indian. This bike will bring the brand a whole new customer set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun Bike I bought the FTR S and it is a blast to ride. I switched out the pipe and relocated the plate and blinkers so far. The first week I put on 850 miles because I couldn’t stop riding.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome bike I love the FTR. Bike wise it is great! The only thing that really puts me down is how much if something was to break will cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I traded in my KTM 1090 for this bike just due to size. This is no adventure bike but it still has a lot of potential. It came with all of the accessories to make it the Rally minus the wheels and it performs much like an adventure bike if you add the right tires. The Pirellis that you can buy are great. The tech on the bike is great. This is smooth to ride and still has enough suspension travel if you aren't a HARD off roader.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super fun ride This bike is aweoame! You can have a blast and you don't need to be doing land speed records. I love this ride. I have owned the FTR for about 6 weeks . Handles very well . This bike is a great back roads bike, loves the twisties. One item that hopefully gets addressed by Indian is the fuel mapping issue with cold start stalling and the engine randomly shutting off when coming to a stop. I have owned many fuel injected bikes over the last two decades and own current model bikes from other manufacturers with no such issues. Apart from that i have zero regrets . It's a great bike , love every minute of riding it. Apart from that i have zero regrets

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun to ride Bike is great. My only gripe is that tilt runs really rough and misfires until it is warm. Which can take a few minutes to warm up. I like how tall it is for a naked frame. Also really great torque and the touchscreen is cool. Wish it had hand warmers for colder mornings.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst mistake I ever made. I purchased this bike on August 12th 2020. I got to ride it a couple times. Bike had oil leak behind front sprocket. Took to dealer 3bhours one way from my house. Dealer had bikev2 weeks. Went back to dealer picked up bike got home still had same oil leak. Now has been diagnosed as a porous casting oil is leaking through side case. Dealer says he would not be able to fix it until end of November. Indian is going to ship to another dealer but will still be without brand new bike for 2 to 3 months. Worst motorcycle purchase ever. Worst dealer experience ever. There are going to be more FTRs with this problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase! Bought the FTR as a 50th birthday present to myself and I couldn’t be happier! The way this bike handles in the curves, the torque and overall power is just what I was looking for in a motorcycle. And the looks...the looks of the bike and the looks I get on the street or whenever I stop and people want to talk about it. Love this motorcycle!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power and Ease My son traded his Bobber for the FTR for a more comfortable ride without giving up the power or joy. After one test ride, I followed his lead and added the FTR to my stable. Great power, ease of riding in corners and the electronics and cruise control are a joy on longer rides.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome City Bike Great For around the city but not so much long rides. I am 6' 4 300 pounds. The seat is uncomfortable for a big person And the foot pegs are set way too high. Down and back 2" would be phenomenal. It has all the power you will ever need and A-blast to ride. Handles a gravel like butter.
Date published: 2020-09-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from amazing bike! This is my 9th bike in 35 years of riding! I have had Harleys, GSXRs, Ninjas, Buells, name it. I went to Sturgis and test road an FTR...FELL IN LOVE! I was unsure about the wider bars...tall, thinner tires, etc. I like to ride pretty aggressively. WOW! this think handles! Transitions are seamless...the ABS and TC are top shelf (I had never used TC...used it a lot now ;) Riding with wider bars (I am used to sport bikes) was new to me but I found it gives a lot of control and leverage. The torque curve is awesome. Hits bout 6K and pulls hard...Overall, this bike is fun as hell and just a joy to ride. I have had people stop their cars and take pictures. It is a pretty wild but beautiful bike. I put an S&S exhaust, bar end mirrors, fender delete, and LED front signals to clean her up. She sounds amazing!...This is one cool and badass bike! That being said..I am not tall..5'7"..I am on my toes backing it out. I think it would be good for pretty tall people....I am super happy. This bike is a Hooligan all day long that likes long rides!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Puts a smile on my face every time I ride it! Overall I love this bike! Overall I love this bike! I love being able to go on gravel, dirt roads and driving in the rain in rain mode and feel safe! The sound of the bike is kind of quiet even with the Akrapovic exhaust. The OEM tune is not the best. The bike stalls when your warming it up all the time and it's not even cold out. You will have to buy a tume from a third party to fix it and then your bike will run great but it will cost you around $600 US. I wouldn't recommend this bike on a major highway without a windshield else you will get blown around too much. I'm 5'9 and the bike is a little tall for me. I'm a always on my Tippy toes but I learned how to keep my right foot on the right peg and lean the bike to one side when I stop. Took me a few hours of practice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice little ride! Fun bike to take when you want to enjoy the hills and curves. It's great to ride when you want to cool off. I also enjoy riding this more in town.

Scout Sixty

2019 Indian Scout Sixty Thunder Black is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 482.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE my Scout Sixty Just over 1600km on the new bike and I can honestly say it is the perfect bike for me. As a new rider it is very smooth, handles well and is very forgiving. The low saddle height and centre of gravity make it very manageable. Extremely comfortable and plenty of power. I love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bike! I haven’t had a chance to ride it much yet. So far I love it. My only real complaint is the fact there is no fuel gauge. That really surprises me there isn’t one and I don’t understand why that would be left out. Once the low fuel light comes on you don’t have very many miles left before you run out of gas. I reset my trip odometer to keep track of my gas situation. That’s my only complaint and it’s not a game changer. Overall I love the bike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I Wanted In a Cruiser I purchased my Scout Sixty in Ruby Red with ABS one month ago. I’m already at the break in maintenance mileage. Can’t stay off the bike, which is a great problem to have. I’m back in to riding after a 25 year break and spent a while researching my options for a bike in this class. My previous bikes were all under 500 cc and only one was a street bike, but this time I knew I wanted a bike that made a statement with looks and performance. The Sixty scores high in both categories. Other experienced big tourer and cruiser riders are surprised at the power and performance from a 1000cc bike. Regardless of experience level and even non-riders love the styling. This bike was so easy to get the hang of and get comfortable with even when coming back from essentially a level 2 or 3 out of 10, but I can tell that there is a lot of untapped performance remaining for me to grow in to. I definitely don’t feel like this is a stepping stone or entry level bike that I’ll need to upgrade from. I think I’ll have it for the long term and love it more after every ride. (Ps...I’ve added a 19” QR windshield, changed to a tan leather seat (instead of black), upgraded to the LED Scout Pathfinder headlight, Indian floorboards to replace the pegs, and put on the Indian solo rack and Indian Highway bars both in chrome and now saving for the Indian brand saddlebags)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Room for improvement I purchased on 10/24 & wish dealers included fitment in the deal. Being 5'2", I'm still struggling to get a good safe and comfortable fit on this bike. Everything is very over priced and after just purchasing a brand new bike it is discouraging to have to shell out so much more to be able to ride it comfortably and safely. Add on any labor and delays or stocking issues at the dealer and I have had my share of buyers remorse to be honest. The clutch lever is so stiff and hard to reach that I'm now developing some serious chronic pain in my left hand/wrist. Too many fit issues and parts changed and still without finding the right combination for comfort, to list. Love the bike in theory. The look, the sound, the idea of it but not worth much if I can't ride it without significant pain and difficulty operating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great first cruiser!! Put my first 600 miles on my 2020 Scout Sixty and I love it! Couldn't be more happy with my purchase. The stock seat was my only real compliant. Upgraded to the sport seat and so far it is a definite improvement from the stock seat. Exhaust sounds more like a sport bike than I would like, but, other than that, its my first Indian, and I will for sure be back for more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expectations I’ve owned many motorcycles over the years. 43 years old now. I got out of riding for several years. I had previously owned a few Harley Sportsters and was leaning in that direction. Then i test rode the Scout 60! Wow! In one sentence: it’s just a better bike in all aspects. Period. The power delivery delivery is amazing as well as the handling. Ride comfort is also leaps and bounds better. The dealerships I’ve had service done have been very helpful. As a long time Harley guy i feel Harley is in trouble here. Very very happy Indian owner. I don’t look back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Bike I have had this for just over 2 mo now have rode it into the hill country.. I love this Bike the only reason I gave it a 4 overall and not the 5 is the rear tire has 0 traction on wet service. when out riding I got hit with rain and the lose of control from the rear was very scary. over all I love this thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love my Scout Sixty! I get compliments on it every time I’m filling up with gas. I ride two to three times a day on it and frequently go for day trips on the weekend. I cannot get enough of this bike! I highly recommend it. It’s quick and agile. Great on the highway, great on country roads and great in the city. I get tons of compliments on it and it’s totally fun to outfit with customizable additions. I recommend the shorty slip on exhaust. Bottom line this is the best decision I’ve made for myself in memory. If you’re on the fence - just get it. You’ll thank yourself tomorrow, and the next day, and the next...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bike!!! I love my Scout Sixty! At 1000 cc it is plenty big enough to get me around! I wanted to get into a great new bike (at a good price) so I could get used to riding again after 30+ years. The bike is beautiful! I’ve added a windshield and after market bags so I’m set-for now! The sound and t(e look is so nice. I get tons of comments and compliments on this bike! After a bit I will be looking for a bigger bike so I can hit the highway and make long trips. That being said there’s not an Indian bike I wouldn’t be proud to own!

Scout
Starting at $11,999 US MSRP
2019 Indian Scout Indian Motorcycle Red / Thunder Black (ABS) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 1071.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plenty of horsepower I bought the bike in April. I was torn between the Scout and the Scout Bobber. I landed on the Scout due mainly to the more upright rider position. I felt it matched my own style a little better. I love the power of the bike, and I also love how many people start up conversations with me about it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bike I've owned Glad I had decided to upgrade from a 700 to a 1100 Indian Scout. Much more power and style and sits a little lower to the ground. Pretty sure this will be my forever bike. I have already made some upgrades and love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thank you for making a bike for short girls She turns heads wherever we go. She is the perfect weight. We did have to lower a tad bit because I am 5’0. First time I have ever been completely flat foot on my bike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2021 Indian Scout I purchased this 2021 Indian Scout machine and it's a complete blast to ride. Only thing I've changed was the exhaust system which I had Daytona Beach Indian Motorcycle install. This machine has incredible pick up and handling. Being 65 years old it's a perfect machine for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An upgrade for sure. Put about 1000 miles on my Scout. It was a Demo model so had about 125 miles when I got it. I absolutely love it. But the front brake squeaks from the day I bought it and the throttle isn't as responsive as I'd l like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Corners amazing! I bought this bike to upgrade from my old bike, Which was a Suzuki LS650. Totally different animal! I’m loving my Scout! The only thing that takes getting used to, it’s a little torque(y), but once you get used to that it goes, nice and smooth!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sexy and iconic! I traded in a euro bike so this is quite a change for me. Fortunately, I was able to get a test ride and immediately fell in love with it! I’m looking at accessories - you can really change the look of this machine! Highly recommend looking at Indian before you go to the Harley Davidson shop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the scout handling 60 days and have not found any major issues. Will be changing out OEM mirrors as these do not give me best rear vision.
Date published: 2021-05-10
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Bike Very happy with this bike. The price was very high for the minimal options that come stock. So that was a little upsetting. The limited availability of the Icon series is exciting because you feeling like you’re going to standout around town. But the high price blew my budget so I’m going to have to wait on aftermarket extras to make it my own. Lots of power for it’s size and weight. But it lacks an aggressive sound that you would expect from such a powerful bike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like the Scout After over fifty years of riding, I thought maybe it was time to quit riding, so I sold my HD Road glide which I had owned since new in 2004. Along with most of my m/c gear. 2 months later , the " bug" bit me again, so down sized to a Triumph Bonneville. It was the great bike I remembered them to be, but it just wasn't the right fit for me. I sat on the Scout in the showroom and new immediately it was the bike for me. After putting a few hundred miles on it , I haven't changed my mind, just like the old days ,I look for excuses to get out on it. Great bike!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous bike, inside and out! I was hit by a car when in my Harley and the bike got totaled, so it was time to buy a new bike. I had been looking at new bike already, due to the vibration which had for long made my neuropathy to act up and I had to stop every 10 miles the least on Harley. Since I’m only 5ft tall, my search preferences were; low vibration, low seat height and some oomph on the engine. Wanted features included pegs for sure, the kind I could reach with size 5 riding shoes. Sounds easy to find, but is anything but. I’ve always liked how Indians look, somewhat..should I use word “noble” here, So I went to local Indian dealer and sat on one amd that was pretty much it. The problems I find with stock features are reach to the levers (I can barely reach the brake lever with my small hand, which obviously is an issue) and the heat from the engine, same with heat from pipes when stopped. On the other hand, there are so many adjustments on Scout that can be done without changing parts, that it’s quite incredible. For my height, I also might look for another seat, I have quite a bit of space behind me. I also love the power the engine gives, though it takes quite high rpms to get going, but when it does..it’s an open road all the way after traffic lights, all to myself. Regardless..I can’t give anything less than 5 stars after having my Indian less than couple months.

Date published: 2021-02-26
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Expensive I love the bike but instantly regretted buying it. For 17k I could’ve got a much better bike either Indian or Harley. Also if you are hoping to get accessories don’t hold you breath. I purchased the bike in December and it’s February and my passenger seat is still not here along with other accessories. Love the look of the bike but looking back I would’ve spent that money on a bigger bike with more features.

Scout Bobber
Starting at $10,999 US MSRP
2019 Indian Scout Bobber Thunder Black is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 606.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Ride! A wonderful ride and a motorcycle I will grow into and ride for a decade or more!
Date published: 2021-09-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A look and feel unlike anything else. I bought this because of the look and quality Indian is known for. The bike has a classic feel to it's look. When I seen it, it reminded me of a WW2 bomber's engine nacelle. It has just the right amount of chrome, a real leather seat and a finish that isn't bland or boring! I get tons of compliments. The bike is quick and responsive in all manners. It handles better than any bike I've driven. It does ride just a bit harder then I expected, long rides are a little harsh. My only real issue I have with the bike, is the availability of official accessories and the building of a bike. I'm not sure why, it costs so much more for changes to be made, especially since the bike is being built. I really wish, this could have come with the handle bars I wanted. Some how, that would have costed me way more at the time of build? Why? So I got it as is. I feel Indian missed the boat on this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New adventures I never rode a road bike in my life. All I ever ridden was atvs and dirt bikes. I wanted my first road bike. So I looked at both dealers of harley and indian. I wanted a beginner bike but at the same time grow into it and the scout bobber like is what caught my eyes the most. What one me over is the affordability of owning one compared to the harley line. Plus almost everyone has a harley. So I wanted to be different from everyone else and got myself a indian. Not just indian... a scout bobber twenty. I like they way it feels even just standing still. The bike is simple and reliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bike .. but there are a few things I love the bike. The engine is sublime. The seat however is horrible- ask any owner. Why not skip the stock seat and make the comfort saddle standard? Sad that you discontinued the reduced reach handlebars. A mid-control option would be great also.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great bike I have had nothing but fun on this new motorcycle. I did have to modify it a bit because I am tall and it is not built right off the showroom floor for tall people but I have had to modify all of my motorcycles so that was expected. I really wish Indian offered a lot more options for taller people than they do but with some searching online I got this bike to be a perfect fit and I couldn't be happier with my purchase now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 2020 Indian Chief Dark Horse - Ownership Review I purchased my new 2020 Indian Chief Dark Horse Motorcycle a month ago and have enjoyed the transition from the smaller frame Scout to the larger Chief. The comfort features (i.e. - cruise control, fuel gauge, floor boards, etc.) are very nice and function well. The riding position is comfortable and the adjustable air suspension soaks up even the roughest of roads. The Chief frame is heavy by most standards and as such is clumsy / awkward while in city traffic. Once on the highway, the bike is very balanced and easy to handle. The engine power is adequate but unimpressive under hard acceleration. The addition of the stage 1 intake and exhaust system will likely improve the performance characteristics to be on-par with the competition but the purchase price of the desired OEM Indian parts is very high, as compared to other competitors. Overall the new bike is rock solid and enjoyable to ride. It is well poised on the highway and somewhat predictable in urban settings. Indian should consider adding a factory performance option package (Stage 1 or 2), that could be purchase up front by the buyer at an affordable price. It doesn't make sense, from an owner's perspective, to buy an Indian product and to automatically always assume that you will need to pay the dealer to tear you're brand new bike apart to make it run well from the factory.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The truck just sits in the driveway... It’s been about 6 weeks and I already have over 2k miles on it. Love this bike, plenty of power, great handling. It gets a lot of attention, that’s why it was only right to add a passenger seat. Been staring at the Chief Dark horse for a couple years now and finally pulled the trigger. No regrets whatsoever. Indian also has a great veterans deal which was a nice bonus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic motorcycle The Chief Dark Horse is a great motorcycle, it's my 3rd Indian and looks great next to my Scout and Roadmaster. The Dark Horse handles wonderfully, is very quick and responsive, and I love the blacked out finish and minimalistic look. I would recommend the backrest to enhance the comfort at highway speeds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bike!!! I bought the 2019 Indian Chief Dark Horse a couple months ago and I couldn’t be happier. I’m a new rider and after completing the 3 day Riding Academy at my local Harley-Davidson dealer, I was able to jump on the bike without any issues. I’m 5’7” and the bike fits perfectly. I owe it to all of the people who posted reviews about this bike because it really helped when I was looking for a bike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the look I wanted! Been away from motorcycles for about 12 years now (guess how old my oldest is) and finally decided to get back on two wheels. When I looked at the market I was surprised to see how much has changed. I knew I had outgrown the sport bikes but wasn’t quite mature enough for a Touring...that left me wanting a mean looking cruiser that wouldn’t take hours a month of chrome polishing. When I saw the Chief Dark Horse I was sold. Started doing my homework on reliability and panicked when I saw how bad it was but then realized this was all pre-Polaris and since they’ve taken over it seems the same quality they build their ATVs with is now going into their bikes. I love everything about the bike and am having a blast racking up the miles and customizing it to make it my own. Zero regrets on that purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love the handling. I Bought my Darkhorse a month ago and I absolutely love it. Driving in Cruiser mode is smooth and comfortable, but feel the power on sport mode.
Date published: 2020-06-27
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lots of Power, Great Looks I bought the bike over a month ago now, upgraded from a Scout. The difference is night and day. The power and smoothness of the ride is not even comparable to a Scout or similar. Very comfortable ride, and the ride height allows you to still take corners pretty tight even though this is a large bike. When I bought the bike, the dealership had put Rinehart pipes on, which sound great (much more of a growl to them vs the stock pipes). I'd think my only gripes are; 1) Clutch grab is not a tight fit and rattles against the handlebar when I hit bumps. Tried tightening the clutch cable, but that did not solve it...seems to just be a loose fit. 2) The first shift from 1st into 2nd after starting the bike is a little rough, you really have to force it up into gear. After that however, when the bike warms up, shifting is effortless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First cruiser Ok so Ive been riding for a little over 10 years. And until I bought this bike it was always rockets. Last bike before this was an R1, However I was ready for more comfort. One day my brother showed me the scout an I had to go sit on it. I did and while it was better then the r1 by miles I was still c shaped for a riding position. Then I sat on a chief an I knew that was it. I traded my R1 in for the chief dark horse. And I only have 300 miles on it so far but I will say I am not disappointed. The ride is super smooth and sitting position is perfect. I can ride for longer then an hour and not feel any discomfort and hitting any bumps in the road are barely noticeable. The bike is fantastic an has enough power to get out of its own way. Only thing I might recommend if you do a lot of highway riding is getting a windshield. An that’s only if your doing 65+. That’s nothing against the bike it’s just the pressure on you from the wind is annoying. But it’s not like I felt like I was going g to get ripped from the bike or anything. The seat is deep and holds you in place well an is very comfortable for a stock seat. And the bike just looks and sounds great. I know for most riders they like there bike to scream with how loud it is. The stock pipes on it have a nice sound. It lets you know it’s there without being obnoxious. But I do know most people want to be heard a block away and the stock pipes don’t do that. While I loved my r1 I regret nothing getting this bike and am looking forward to a summer of long and enjoyable rides with my family.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mean, Lean and Dark I purchased the 2020 Chief Dark Horse at the end of 2019 while adding the Stage 3 upgrade along with a few other extras. Once the bike was done receiving the upgrade and the 500 mile break-in period was up, I got to test the beast out a bit. Handling is effortless, ride is smooth but pulsating, power is more than I hoped for, and looks are nothing less than exquisite. The only regret I have is there is not enough time in my day to stay in the saddle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bike We had a Roadmaster but as we aged we were faced with declining muscle mass and downsized some so we could keep on riding since we were not doing the long hauls anymore. The Springfield was just the right compromise for us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE MY 17 SPRINGFIELD This is my second Springfield. The first one was completely submerged by Hurricane Harvey. Naturally, after losing that fine machine to Mother Nature and the Houston Corps of Engineers (long story), I went back and got another one. I love the style, power and the presence of the Indian.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely awesome bike. It's a great bike. It looks good. It sounds good. It has plenty of power. The handling is excellent. The little things like electronic bag lock, tire pressure monitoring and warning system, kick stand warning light, and the fact that the gear position is always displayed are all very nice features. Even the tire stem valves are at a 90 degree angle so that it's easier to add air. Indian Motorcycles also have an easy to use web site that makes contains all the information and documentation about your bike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Features Great Ride Awesome handling Beauty! This is the bike I wanted 2 years ago, however felt it was too big for my first bike. So, I bought a Scout. I loved the Scout! However, this bike just kept calling me. So, I bought it! I am so happy I did! It handles so much better in the wind, the ride is astronomical! Beauty? I can't begin to give enough credit to the authentic, classy, beautifully retro lines of the bike! She is a dream come true!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Features, Stability and Ride Comfort I downsized from a Roadmaster to the Springfield because it was time and the smart thing to do given my age. I fully expected to purchase another brand of bike that I had owned previously, but when I test rode that bike it took less than 5 miles to realize it didn't compare to the Indian in terms of features, road feel and overall comfort. I would have given this bike 5 stars, but the OEM handlebars were uncomfortable for me and the reduced reach bars I had installed are spread further apart than than OEM bars so I really didin't gain anything in terms of a true reduced reach. After 800 miles that is my only distraction which I guess I'll get used to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Riders ride 1200km on my new springfeild! Kudos to indian for being able to deliver exactly what I wanted in a motorcycle. The fit and finished quality is second to none. The bike handles with a refined confidence and comfort. Although my bike has been modified with stage 2 cams, I'm sure the ts111 delivers more than enough torque and power to satisfy any need, with the cams it becomes as much as anybody could need from a v twin heavy weight, almost unruly but buckets of fun. The bike is gorgeous, runs and handles exceptionaly, but does have some draw backs... Most notably for me NO HELMET LOCKS. Im not always stopping at the hotel and dont really like carrying a helmet around with me. Now I just use cheap helmets instead of fancy Indian ones. The heat from the CAT on the right side is a bit much and probably could have been located better, say in the cross pipe under the bike? Although, Im sure in November here in Ontario its gonna give me some much needed heat. Any goofball can walk up and turn the power on my bike by pressing the button with the large power symbol on it, im sure its fine but I just dont like the idea of it. Seem like the fob should be in range backed up with a hidden switch. Looks super kool though. Finally, I couldnt be more proud to own this rare luxury motorcycle. Certianly the fines motorbike I have ever had the pleasure to own and ride. Get yourself one, you will not forget it. These bikes are beautiful asphalt eating machines. Thanks Polaris.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even more enjoyable to ride than I expected This bike fits so well and is very good for long rides. Slow speed handling is easy and the bike is rock stolid in top gear. The engine is one of the most versatile motors on a motorcycle; great low speed response, mountains of torque when you need it and can cruise at freeway speeds easily at relaxed rpms.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Many bikes, first Indian I've ridden many bikes in my time, from Bonneville's to BMW. This bike has the best handling and riding position of any of them. Two up allows for a relaxed trip for two either round to the local store, or long summer days enjoying the view....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New 2020 Springfield I bought this bike in June 2020 and already have 700+ miles. I love this bike. This is my first Indian. I chose the Springfield because of the shorter rake and great handling. Great for short trips and looking forward to my first cross country ride this fall. Rides and handles great. My only suggestions are wishing 1st gear was geared a little lower to ease handling in busy parking lots and I will add an oil cooler on my next service, because I have noted heat from the engine when riding in 90 degree days. I would definitely recommend this bike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rode 900 miles home Bought a 2019 left over at an amazing value flew to Toledo to pick it up and drive home to Long Island New York. An awesome experience. Got the windshield of course. At 5 foot 10 it was perfect for me to see over and there was no buffering whatsoever.Overall the bike was comfortable and flawless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Love this bike. Everything is perfect. She’s my first big bike. I rode sport bikes up until this point in my life. I miss the zippy ness of my CBR but my Springfield had some get up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I didn’t buy a Harley Was looking for my first motorcycle. Determined to buy the Harley-Davidson Road King Special. Spent many hours at the dealer figuring my dream bike. I saw the Indian and decided I might as well go look and just see all my options. The moment I saw the bike on the showroom I immediately fell in love. Looked at the sales rep and told him to get the paperwork going. Extremely happy with my bike. I have had it for a little over a month and was waiting to get my license. Once I got my license I put 500 miles on it in a work week. Easy to maintain, ride is fantastic and I am averaging 52mpg riding to and from work. After owning this bike I don’t think I will ever go to a different brand. Love the Heritage and love being able to ride my bike and not trying to look like a “Harley guy”. Highly recommend this bike to everyone I talk to!! The only thing I wish was that the dealership I purchased from was like the Harley store. I cannot take my bike in for routine maintenance on Saturdays, there is no energy there (Harley dealer was exciting and events going on every Saturday), no riding or dealership events offered. Very boring and a place I don’t like to spend a lot of time. When you are there it feels like you are wasting their time and you don’t matter anymore. Thinking about going to another dealership 2.5hours away or open my own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You won't be disappointed! I come from about 18 years of sports bikes and this is my first cruiser. I chose this because I'm used to power at will, looks menacing, and it handles very well even at low speeds. The stock sound of the exhaust is passable. I understand these would need to pass emissions to sell. Fit and finish is superb. The matte finish is very easy to clean. Easy to work on, and Indian has maintenance tutorials on youtube. I would recommend this to anyone looking at big cruisers. I look forward to my weekend rides with my friends, one of them even bought a Scout because I was so happy with my Indian. I originally was considering the Chieftain but I would never use the touch screen and the speaker system because I have a Cardo comm. I like the minimalist design and the blacked out look on this SDH. Everything about this bike speaks quality. I really like how smooth it rides and not too much vibration like Harley models have. Comfortable seats, and posture. Rev matching is very easy to do. It has a built in alarm system and lockable hard bags. I've owned many bikes and this is the only one that made me smile as I rode off the dealership. The dealership staff is very easy to work with. Sagebrush Smoke color is what sealed the deal for me. Of course this wouldn't be a review without cons. I like using synthetic oil on all of my machines. Indian recommends 15w60 for synthetic and it's hard to find on other brands. I don't want to use the common 20w50 and have a possibility of clutch slippage. The aftermarket support on these is not as robust as Harley, but I expected that. The clutch pull is harder than what I'm used to. The gas tank wobbles a bit, I still haven't had time to check out if the bolts are loose. A brand new bike with only 500 miles shouldn't have this issue. There are so much emblems that say Indian on it. At the price we pay, the headlights should be LED.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed Have less than 3000 miles on the motorcycle and already broke down. I hate to think of what problems I will have in the future. Now I have a loan on a motorcycle I no longer trust or want.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome ride Bough in February 2020. It’s been raining in Florida & I no longer enjoy thunderstorm rides... engine is louder than stock pipes. fit & finish are great except for bags - they leak so stuff gets wet in the rain & after washing. A better seal and liners would be nice. Performance, handling and features are perfect for me. It’s light for a bagger. I’m only just getting to the 500 mile mark but so far very happy with the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome machine purchased this bike full stage 3 a little over a month ago and have loved every mile since. I do wish the springfield still came stock with highway bars though. They really add to the look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great I purchased my 2019 Springfield Darkhorse in mid July and couldn’t be happier. I originally planned to get a Road King Darkhorse and spent months researching. I stumbled on a comparison between the RKS and the Springfield Darkhorse which piqued my curiosity. Further reviews and rides pushed me completely over to the Darkhorse and I haven’t had a single regret. I added the Rogue seat which my wife says is way more comfortable than the RKS, and get a ton of compliments on the overall look. If you want a Harley and are set on it, get a Harley. But if you want something unique, with style, functionality, performance, and reliability, definitely check out an Indian.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love being part of the Indian community At 46, I thought I’d be with Harley-Davidson forever. Then the day came that my loyalty to Harley-Davidson was not returned by Harley-Davidson. That day I left the HD dealer/service department and drove to my local Indian dealership. “Just to look”, I told myself... within five minutes of looking at the beautiful machines and digging into the history of this amazing part of American motorcycle history I was hooked! Then, I saw this machine... that was it! I was all in on Indian. The looks I get and the number of people who ask about this classic inspired ride is phenomenal! I LOVE MY INDIAN!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Springfield Dark Horse is a great bike Now that I have put a few thousand miles on my new bike, I have had no issues whatsoever. It performs as well as the many bikes I've had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected My last bike was a Yamaha Virago over 30 years ago. I was a little concerned about the weight. I shouldn't have been. Very comfortable with a low center of gravity. I got the red seat package as well as highway bar and passenger boards. Just waiting for the windshield and running lights. Didn't make me too happy. I think the weight may have had something to do with me escaping possible injury or worse. One of those plastic totes (16X24X16 quesstimate) fell out of the truck ahead of me (doing speed limit, 70 mph, and back a ways. No tailgating). It's bouncing, I'm guessing which way is it going. I guessed right but not right enough. I clipped it going about 70. My foot was resting on the highway peg attached to the highway bar. The hit knocked my foot off the peg, but the bike reacted like Rocky..."Is that the best you got!" And it didn't even flinch. After a minute I looked down and saw that the rubber floorboard pad was gone. I didn't go back to look. When I got home, I saw the bar AND the bolt attaching it to the frame was bent so far back that the floorboard was resting on the highway bar. I'm alive and kicking. I credit the bike to a large degree.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Ride I like the way the bike looks and handles. I get a lot of looks when I'm riding. The bike feels light and smooth. Corners nice. I like the 116 C.I. engine. It responds quickly. I like the sound of the engine. I like key fob and the fact that you can automatically lock the bags.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A rare gem in my neck of the woods I have only had this dark horse for two months and have have loved every minute of it. It’s well balanced, great for me at 5’8”. People continue to seem amazed by it when I pull up next to them. Saddlebag fits a small soft yeti cooler perfectly. Really well lit for night rides. Have 600 miles on it so far and wake up every day hoping to get another ride in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome bike I love this bike only issues is lack of horsepower and 4000 room limit. Other issues is fuel gauges are estimate, always almost a gallon left of 5.5 tank but everything says empty and does not match trip milage . Wish horn button was easier to reach, too close to light switch. The big power button and the ignition switch should be ONE,would like to see side panels fit better so I don't see gaps.

Chieftain
Starting at $21,999 US MSRP
2020 Indian Chieftain Thunder Black is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 663.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from I’m sure its nice if I ever get it. I bought this bike 3 months ago and still don’t have it. Made 3 payments and watched the beautiful riding days slip by. Went to Minnesota to pick it up and 10 miles later it stalled and would not start. It’s been back at the dealer ever since.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performance is outstanding I purchases this bike approximately 2 months ago and now have approximate 2000 km on this bike. I love the overall performance and handling. Only real issue that I have had is it has stalled on me in first gear a couple of times as the bike tends to idle low at times.
Date published: 2020-09-22
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wanted this bike a long time I enjoy this bike more every time I ride it. One of the first things I noticed, and greatly appreciated, is its balance and how nimble it is. On my previous bike when I approached a red light, braking and down shifting, I had be careful about maintaining balance. Even just moving my foot up to the brake then down to the pavement could cause a wobble as I stopped, and then a struggle to push the bike up to vertical. None of that happens with the Chieftain. It glides to a stop and stays fully upright as it slowly rolls up to the white line. No struggle for me at all any more. Taking tight corners and more expanded curves is a breeze. It's light on its feet for a 900-pound motorcycle. I really appreciate that. And power? Whoa! Once I hit 5th gear and move into 6th, even slight throttle twists cause a burst of speed. I'm not an ultra fast rider, like some guys, but this thing can easily cruise an interstate at 75 mph with no sweat. And still have plenty of power for passing and quick lane changes. To me, it's amazing. 116 c.i., baby. I did have trouble with up shifting when the bike was new. It was really hard to get the transmission to shift into second gear, for example. Everybody said Indian builds them really tight that way on purpose so that over time as it loosens up it will still be tight and not loose and sloppy. I get that. So I installed the Pinnacle heel shifter. Problem solved. I love that thing! My complaints all center around my personal comfort so they're really not a reflection on the bike, and I think they can all be solved. I'm not a fan of the newer Rogue "gunslinger" seat Indian put on many of their bikes. After 30 to 45 minutes of riding I have to get off and give my butt a break. Yes, it's hurting that bad. Five minutes off and I'm ready to get back on. So I need a better-built, more comfortable seat. Next issue is leg room. I'm 6'4" and weigh 263 lbs. I'm also 68 years old. I'm not interested in the Rogue extended reach seat for two reasons. One, it's another Rogue seat. Two, I can't use the driver back rest I paid $545 for. I'm looking at Indian's nicer extended reach seat (also can't use back rest) or one of several after market seats that can include a driver back rest. Also, under the heading of leg room, I have to mention Indian's infinite highway pegs. I had highway pegs on my last bike and loved them. But with these new pegs I've already moved them three times and can't find a position on the bar that gives my legs or my butt/back any relief. They are almost a wasted purchase at $300. Despite the complaints the bottom line is my 2020 Indian Chieftain is one great motorcycle. Lots of things to really love about it and only a couple of issues to get adjusted to make it perfect for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall great bike I bought this bike in May. I couldnt be happier im glad i made the purchase. With that said i have some bones to pick. How do you offer tpsm reading on the ride command but dont have the actual sensors on all your 2020s come on indian you can do better. And 2nd the ride command needs work how can you offer to move or change widgets but without the GPS module you cannot save them? They reset every time you shut the bike off! Again come on indian you have SOMETHING good but drop the Ball! Oh and offer the sage brush green for the chieftain!!!!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2020 Chieftain 3 month review, I love my ride. I would submit there are too many positives to list only negative is the Ride Command, the software is restricted and features like GPS and MPG are absent. I recommend all Indian crusers come with full Ride Command.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it I had looked at getting another HD after not having a bike for 12 years, a friend said to me that he didn't think he would buy another HD and mentioned Indian, I looked at what they offered and found a local dealer that had the exact model and color that caught my eye, one ride and I rode it home that day

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs work Picked the bike up over a month ago. Suspension brakes, looks and handling are all very well executed. Sound system is good and so are the head lights. The motor runs lean from the factory and they need to work on the tuning. Ride command is absolute garbage. Lots of bugs, can’t use CarPlay without having a head set.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice Bike I bought the bike about 6 weeks ago and have put 1600 km on it since then. I really like the styling of the bike and after demo riding a street glide decided that this was a much better handling bike. I do dislike the fact that there is certainly a Polaris feel in the fit and finish of the bike though, I would have expected a much higher quality for the price they charge. The options are priced way out of line for what you get.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smooth ride, sleek look, awesome features. I was on the hunt for a fairing bike, and this bike has all the features a person could need, along with a smooth ride. The sleek look of the fairing, 100W sound system, and locking saddle bags, this is a great bike for the price point and features. The only thing that needs to change is the sound system needs more bass, and the retractable windshield needs to go slightly higher for the wind to go over a persons head.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the bike I really love the bike, just wish the 3 dealers that I have checked with to service it or fix the rear tire pressure sensor that has not worked since it had zero miles on it were not so busy putting new bikes in service. A shame I buy a 30 thousand dollar bike and no one can get it in for a first service in less than a month

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall I purchased this bike a little Over a month ago and have put on just shy of 2 thousand miles. This bike is so fun and easy to ride. As soon as I park it I feel the need to get back on it and take it for a spin.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bike with one issue. I owned and traded in a 2018 Springfield DH. The bike was perfect on so many levels. I was at the fork in the road wether to do a BBK or upgrade into a new bike. I settled on a new chieftain because of the Nav, radio, blah blah blah. It's a great bike, a sexy bike! The only issue I have is the RIDE COMMAND. The auto day/night feature gets stuck. The dealers aren't really wanting to look at it, they say just change it manually. That's great and all but I bought a brand new bike, an expensive bike and I expect it to perform with ALL the features. I'm still waiting on getting it in to have it "looked at". Overall I love this bike with the one issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful wicked machine The more I ride this thing the more I love it , pack with raw power, unmatched style , and extremely nimble. The only problem I have with it is trying to get away from the gas pumps , because someone always wants to sit and talk about how awsome the bike is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing upgrade! Bought this Daytona Bike week, the dark horse is amazing. Wish I would have done it sooner. I went from a 2016 Scout my first bike to 2020 Chieftain. Enjoying it. My friends with other bikes are jealous of the display, music system and the auto windshield.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ergonomics and power. Bought it last month the ergonomics and power are great for long rides. Style and handling in my opinion stands alone. Sounds much better with true Rinehart duels and mufflers, a small difference in delivery of power...but HP and torque while rolling the throttle on are virtually the same.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rollin Thunda! I bought this bike 6 weeks ago and I love it! I am impressed with the style, power, and stability of this bike. I really feel comfortable in the turns and the curves. The ride command is robust, the bags are spacious, and I just do not have any complaints. The sound from this Chieftain is a lot deeper, vs the Challenger btw.... The stock power and sound does not require any upgrades, IMO.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Motorcycle yet!!!! Previous HD owner, and wow!!! Indian’s have such better balance, shifting, parts, and technology over Harley’s. The ride command is amazing, love the adjustable windscreen and already have cams, exhaust, and mid rise bars on it!!! Great product, great company, great dealerships!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Upgraded from a Scout about a month ago. At first it seemed a little intimidating but after a few rides, love it!! The throttle response is excellent and the fairing blocks much more wind than the Scout windshield. Husband is jealous my radio plays louder than his dark horse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Motorcycle I traded my 2018 Chieftain Classic for a 2019 Limited and love the new look and Ruby color. Left the next day on a 1300 mile ride that, unfortunately, involved rain. Was very surprised and disappointed in the lack of rain protection and wind buffeting of my helmet. Upon returning home, I added the JES lower wind deflectors and Indian lower fairing which rectified the wind turbulence 100%! I have 2500 miles in the first month and absolutely love the Limited now. My only regret is purchasing a 2019 that doesn’t have the updated Ride Command where you can overlay the weather on our map.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Bagger To Date From the first demo ride I knew I had to have it. I have many miles under me over the last 30 years of riding. Nothing even comes close to the comfort and handling of this bagger! Cannot wait to see the small balance of states not checked off yet, and repeat many that have! After purchasing I have let some of my riding friends take it for a spin, well that has accumulated to four of them switching to Indian within weeks of the test ride. Kind of speaks for itself. What are you waiting for? Life is too short to ride boring bikes..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE this bike! I bought this bike at the beginning of July and have already put 2500 miles on it (would have been farther along if it hadn’t rained so much). I love the comfort and the amenities offered, and at the price point we got them all at (loyalty and other incentives made the ‘19 model a STEAL. So much so that I traded in our Scout, and really wasn’t planning on doing so!). I had looked at the baggers from Indian as well as some other manufacturers, but everything this bike came with was what I wanted at a price I couldn’t ignore. Looking forward to putting many many miles on her for years to come on the backroads of Tennessee, Kentucky, and North Carolina! I gave the sound 5 stars, but that was because I had them put on Rhinehart Racing slipons before we left with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun and Functional I recently traded my 2014 Victory Highball in on a new 2019 Chieftain Limited. I love my new ride! It is so much more comfortable for long rides and I feel less fatigued at the end of the day. The GPS is tricky and I have not yet had success with ride command planning a route. The radio is very good and I have no issue linking my MotoZ (Droid) to it to stream music. I receive messages too, but I find that distracting. The engine has plenty of power and torch but I find it has a hesitation when I want to launch hard from a stop. I think with a stage one and a bigger air intake this issue might resolve its self. I actually am a very big fan of the factory exhaust sound.. I was surprised how nice of a rumble the factory exhaust offers when you drop a gear and give it a bit of gas to pass a car etc. I have no plans to change the exhaust in the future because I enjoy the more quite ride experience when I'm cruising. I have switched though the different ride modes but find the standard mode to be more suited to my riding. The sporty mode I find to be lurchy and the tour mode doggy. I haven't used these modes much, but for longer journeys I could see how the tour mode could save on gas. Overall, I am satisfied with my new bagger. I enjoy riding a lot more and find more excuses to ride now. I can't wait to see what Polaris does next with the Indian line!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it! Was initially shopping for an HD when I stumbled across my local Indian dealer. Fell in love with the burnt orange’19 Chieftain Limited Icon Series and after a test ride and some negotiation it ended up in my garage. This thing is a torque monster and the features like Ride Command and the power windshield are nice to have. Just be aware there isn’t that big of an aftermarket for accessories yet so to customize it genuine accessories are the only option for quite a bit of things and they are priced like Indian knows they’re the only good option. Also, the dealer network is a little sparse at the moment, but I expect that to grow with time. So far I’m still loving the bike and have no regrets. The thing still puts a big smile on my face when riding it and I still have to turn around to check it out after getting off of it which means I bought the right bike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the bike BUT! I love the bike. Its a smooth ride. It have plenty of power/torque. The sound system is outstanding, it even sound good with the stock exhaust, I have had several comments on how great my Chieftian looks. Overall I am happy with my choice. BUT, Indian made a bike that produces way more heat than it should prompting customers to do two mods ASAP, intake and exhaust. Now those two mods should be a want not a necessity. Of the two only the intake was available. Which brings me to the availability of Indian parts. Weather they are dress up or performance they are ridiculously difficult to find. So if you want a really nice sounding smooth riding bike that turns heads Indian is the one for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks style smooth ride great handling I bought a chieftain limited a little over a month ago. Dealer sells other brands and originally was looking for a Ktm enduro. Checked out and rode an Indian for the heck of it. Could not believe how smooth riding it was and the way it felt like it was on rails in curves after having owned several other American made street bikes. The indian felt lighter weight and rode 100% smoother. Needless to say i ended up with a chieftain and had no intentions of buying when i went to dealership.

Indian Challenger
Starting at $23,999 US MSRP
2020 Indian Challenger Titanium Metallic is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 143.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from At least its fast Good bike overall. Paint quality is pretty bad. Soft clear seams to swirl for no reason. Battery dies in just a few days if not left on the tender. Throttle response is a little wacky. If you can get past that, it rides great. Tons of power and handles well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My 2021 Challenger I recently bought this bike and am very happy with it . It puts Harley to shame in most categories ! The only issue I have is the over use of plastic parts and I find the paint not up to HD’s . Power is awesome ! Bike needs nothing in my opinion . Indian also needs to address the loose fitting saddlebag lids that are not adjustable ! Overall a fantastic bike .

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs some work but could be amazing Had it 2 months 3000 miles came from 2012 road glide *Brass grommets in plastic (pic) *Availability of parts Cheaper tour pack I don't need a all the extras *Passenger backrest is to close to for larger passengers my wife is not huge but she pushes me forward in the seat *uniformity of dealerships *paying for 500 and 5000 mile inspections $30,000 for a bike and I'm paying for something that should be covered under warranty and finding out after I take ownership of bike left me fuming. *traction control should stay off if I select it. * better tuning *please get wider selection of gear black boots, leather jackets! I came from Harley Davidson we are getting older and indian is definitely killing it but we dress a certain way and it aint skinny jeans and tan boots. Over all great scoot

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast, comfortable, and fun!! Great ride from start to finish. Fit and finish is beautiful. All around great bike. Two minor flaws. Not a fan of the throttle response. A little jumpy when in motion. The other is you can see a screw head on top of the gas tank near the gas cap. It’s the only thing that doesn’t look finished.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks good in the garage Thought it was a little soon to be sending me a request for a review twice within six weeks of purchase, so I waited. This bike has so many features that I'd like to talk about and I have pointed out to friends that ride the other American, but cool features don't get you home. Before first five hundred cruise control was iffy. Had switch replaced and had "two inch longer bars" put on end of October. If those bars are longer than stock I'll donate the $600 it cost me to your fave charity. Rode once since and put away for winter. Battery went dead in a month without extreme cold, put it on the tender til spring. Broke it out in March, right of the bat chassis fault code and no headlight, no windshield up or down. So two weeks now in the dealership waiting for word from the factory. Tech seems to have an idea, but can't move til factory gives the go ahead or he's on the hook. Initial factory response was aftermarket headlight interfering with ECU. What a reach! Tip, if you put a stock headlight on that is top shelf wouldn't have gone to aftermarket. That's is so HD. Anyhow still waiting to be able to use my $24,000 that's sitting in the shop. I hope the rest of the questions on the form aren't mandatory, cause ride comfort, sound quality, etc don't matter if you can't ride it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I wish I could give a better review. I traded my Indian Chieftain Limited for a 2021 Indian Challenger in February. I loved my Chieftain and I enjoyed my new Challenger for about 500 miles. The handling, power and fuel range is on another level. Sadly the ECU went bad at the beginning of March and has been stuck at PCB Indian. This will be fixed soon. I will say hat the paint is thin on the base model but otherwise this is wonderful motorcycle. I am looking forward to putting more miles on it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Handles like a dream This is my first over 20 grand bike I have ever owned I only got about 500 miles on it. Things I love the handling the wind protection on cold days the radio and the looks. Things I don’t like is the traction control it’s terrible I am a experienced rider and I find this system annoying. On that note you can disable it but you have to do it every time also no heated grips something I’m use to on much less expensive bikes I like to ride even when it gets colder. You can add them but I feel a bike this expensive even at the entry level challenger should come with heated grips. I’m a little disappointed in the power with all the hype surrounding this bike I thought it would scream it gets up and goes just fine but I thought it would be quicker with all the hype and yes for lots more money you can add cams and exhaust. Overall it’s a great bike that really handles awesome for a big heavy bike it feels like it floats you would not know its weight is at 850 lbs

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Performance I have been a Harley rider for over 25 years. I was hooked on my new Indian Challenger as soon as I left the dealer's parking lot on a test ride. Unbelievable motorcycle for the price. Indian and Polaris have raised the bar in the bagger market

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Challenger I absolutely love this bike. I’ve been riding for over 20 years and have had tons of bikes. This is by far the greatest bike I’ve had. Comfy, powerful and sharp looking. Super functional and high performance. I figured I’d have to switch out the stock windshield but I was wrong. Even that works perfectly. The Ride Command was a little iffy at first but a software update fixed any issues I was having. I could go on and on about how awesome this bike is. Instead I’ll keep it short. 10/10 highly recommended.

Indian Challenger Dark Horse
Starting at $28,499 US MSRP
2020 Indian Challenger Dark Horse Thunder Black Smoke is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 162.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing motorcycle I bought this motorcycle well over a month ago and fell in love with it it’s a much better bike than a Harley
Date published: 2021-05-28
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rides great, BAD electronics PROS: Enjoying the ride so far. Power is amazing, handling is untouchable from a bagger stand point (IMO). The ride is very comfortable, although for my aging back, the seat could be a little more forgiving/supportive with a little more support in the lower back area, but I guess I can buy aftermarket if need be. CONS: The Ride Command is absolute junk. Nav drops repeatedly and is always late on turns. Music. I like to listen to music on rides, especially longer ones, but this thing? Doesn't recognize my USB half the time (yes it's in MP3 format, yes it's FAT32 configured). If it does recognize it, it plays for a while, but then just stops, making me stop the ride and reset the bike (power on/power off type stuff). The music won't advance via toggle (not always, but enough it's frustrating), and it doesn't start with the settings I left off with it when I shut down. Yes, I've reached out to Indian about the ride command and they stated they're is a known problem and a "patch" was being worked on to fix the issues that would be out in a couple of "weeks", but I haven't heard a thing and that was over a month ago. My dealer on the other hand keeps telling me there is no issue. Had to show him videos and pictures for him to say that "yes, you do have an issue". I ordered lots of extras, unfortunately, none of them are on with the exception of the windscreen due to "COVID" supply chain issues. I took the bike the first week of April. Was told they "should" be here by the end of May, we'll see. Engine heat. Thing gets hot. The temp due to the water cooling stays respectable for the most part, even in 90 degrees with traffic so that's a plus and I guess I'd rather my legs heat up a little than the engine seize due to heat so I'll live with it. Overall I'm glad I made the purchase, would still do it again, but for the price I was hoping to not have the gremlins I'm having which are more of an inconvenience than a show stopper. Oh, one last thing, and this for any Indian Engineer who may read this, LOSE THE SPEED LIMITER!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my Challenger Third Bike from Indian. First was a Scout Bobber, second was a Chieftain Darkhorse (Stage 2) and now the Challenger Darkhorse ( stage 2). The power of the Challenger is AWESOME and the handling is sweat too. The only slight gripe I have is the ride command is a touch slower than it was on my 19 Chieftain and the I cannot seem to get rides/tracks recorded on the bike to upload to the ride command webpage. The availability of accessories is a bit disappointing as well bit I don't put that on Indian. The last 12 months of COVID have really messed up the supply join which I understand as I run an aircraft maintenance business as we too have been impacted with parts delayed and unavailable. Overall I absolutely love this bike, it looks great, handles well and has power to boot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time To Sell My H-D’s The Challenger Dark Horse has been the breath of fresh air that I didn’t know I needed. Especially when I compare it’s technology’s against my H-D’s I have in the garage. There was nothing major that I had to upgrade other than the bars and highway bars. If you haven’t thrown your leg across a Challenger yet. You’re missing out on what a true performance bagger off the showroom floor feels like.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hold on Tight! I really enjoy the challenger and how it feels/handles. The performance is great. I do wish some of the accessories were a little more reasonably priced such as gap fillers. 4 pieces of plastic shouldn't cost $800. After all, we are just trying to make your product look its best. The bike rides great and am looking forward to putting more miles on it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Died 4 times, less than 5 miles from dealership. Dealership has had the bike 24 of the last 44 days since purchase. I'm not happy! Had a dead battery day of pickup. Died on deceleration 4 times within first 4 - 5 miles. Idle drops too low 4 - 6 hundred rpm's. Bike dirty on pickup.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs work I bought a little over month and I’m hearing of one problem after another with them. My battery even died after sitting for 5 days. I’m not sure how long I’ll stay with Indian. Also my bike will die on me for no reason!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hate the clutch let’s out at the top. Throttle sux Thougt this would grow on me coming off a Harley hasn’t yet. The bike handles well and the suspension is very good. Plenty of top end power but down low the throttle response is terrible. Clutch surges when in the friction zone and let out at the very end

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome power I bought this bike and the power and handling is hands down better than the Harley Road Glide.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from extraordinary good bike with great features I was waiting for this bike when it was rumored to be come as a Victory. Couple of years later it exceeded all my expectations as the Indian Challenger. Its has a ton of power and it handles fantastic. By keeping the weight low the Challenger feels very planted on the road. The electric features like the windscreen and the LED screen with GPS etc etc are just fantastic. This is the perfect muscle touring bike. The only downfall is that the bike is speed restricted to 177 km per hour. And sometimes I want to go faster :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall great bike mechanically but some tech... Overall the bike itself rides great, nice balance, solid power, suspension on point and feels great. Biggest issues come with the tech side of things. Screen command takes long to boot up. I get gps stuck at times and need to reboot which means turn off bike and back on. Buttons sometimes don’t work etc. things with firmware updates could fix I would expect

I have had some good bikes over the years but this is without a doubt the finest, most comfortable and most responsive bike I have ever owned or ridden. The comfort, handling, protection from the wind, the Ride Command system and the over all looks of this bike is second to none. This is the finest bike out there!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it but still needs work. This bike is an awesome performer. However, the speed limiter is ridiculous, the navigation is horrible and the fit and finish is light years behind the other American made bike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing machine! When I first started shopping for a bike I cam across the challenger dark horse sandstone smoke! And my shopping was done it’s a rare occasion to see something and instantly know that is the bike for you. Iv always wanted and Indian because my great grandfather fought in WW1 it was his job to deliver new orders to the frontlines. He rode on a Indian Powerplus! So for me it’s an amazing machine and a way to get l in touch with my great grandfather who I never got to meet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bike I've owned! Indian really raised the bar with this one! The liquid cooled 108 is smooth and extremely powerful. Clutch pull is easy, though it takes a bit to get used to the engage point. The bike weighs 840 pounds, yet feels much lighter. The ride quality is on par with the BMW 1600, and I consider the seat perfect for long rides. (It is much more comfortable than the roadmaster seat, but not heated) I love the styling of the fixed fairing, though it might not be for everyone....this is not a nostalgic bike like the chieftain or roadmaster (although I love the classic style too, this is my 4th Indian)....this is a fully modern, high performing, technologically advanced ride for the 21st century.

Indian Challenger Limited
Starting at $27,999 US MSRP
2020 Indian Challenger Limited Thunder Black Pearl is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 162.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Indian Challenger - Worth Every Penny I rode both the Challenger and an HD Road Glide. I was amazed at the power, handling, braking, engineering and overall fit and finish of the Challenger. In my opinion, the Challenger exceeds the Road Glide in every manner and is what the Road Glide could be if HD ever modernized it. I got a great deal on a leftover 2020 thanks to Indian's incentives, and having come from BMW, I couldn't be happier!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst buying experience. Living in Florida i did alot of research on the Indian challenger because i wanted a liquid cooled bike for obvious reasons, Florida summers are very hot. I've been riding bikes for over 40 years. I bought my 1st bike in Florida about 10 years ago Triumph Sprint I absolutely loved this bike it was the 1st import bike I owned. Enjoyed it for about 4 years, and seen more accidents between cars and bikes ALL caused by cars running stop signs or red lights, and I personally experienced drivers making eye contact with you and still pulled right in front of me. Im 60 years old now and wanted a American V Twin.. I quickly loved the Challenger, and this is by far the most intelligent bike I've ever owned (buying a bike going into the Florida summers) was a very bad time. This bike is sneaky fast, has more options than I will ever use, that intelligent computer is awesome, the GPS even has a weather and updates traffic to allow you to avoid traffic and more importantly weather (hugh features in Florida) where thunderstorms pop up from nowhere, allowing you to avoid weather it great. I love my bike, I wouldn't recommend the dealership to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost the perfect bike I love my challenger. Performance, handling, options, brakes, and comfort are 2nd to none. My only gripe is that there are no hard lowers available. I have bad hips, and the wind protection from hard lowers greatly increases my comfort on long rides. Also, why is it so hard to get touch up paint???

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Top of the line features, 1988 Hyundai paint. From the moment I rode out of the dealership I liked the bike. The more I ride it, the more I am coming to love it. I didn't want to. I wanted to hate it. But I can't, its a great riding bike. The look and ride of a full bagger, the handling of a sport bike. My only complaints are: the Ride Command app is glitchy at best (a very minor issue) and the paint is horrible. Paint is so soft and delicate that every bird splat or bug impact damages it. Had the bike for less than 2 months and the tank and bag covers need to be repainted.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bike with a couple minor issues After researching online and watching for a year I finally pulled the plug and picked up a Challenger Limited a couple months ago. All round it is a fantastic bike. It is a modern design and is properly engineered to modern standards. Performance is great, suspension is great, it's comfortable and so light on its feet it is very surprising. I am amazed at how nimble and agile it feels,..... all these points are just light years ahead of the Harleys I have ridden in the last few years. Polaris have built a thoroughly modern bike that handles and performs as a modern bike should. Its got to be 10 years or more ahead of HD. I already have a 2015 Chief and that has been 100% reliable so when looking for a bagger I checked the Challenger out. I believe a couple of things need to be addressed though: 1. Paint quality. Gloss level is great but there is a bit too much orange peel in the finish and the hardness of the coating just will not stand up to regular wear and tear very well. It is not as good as the HD finish. I am meticulous with my bikes and the paint scratches so easily it needs a totally different approach to care.... it requires a super soft wash sponge dabbed (not wiped) over the surface with very little pressure and lots of water and carwash to maintain a wet film over the surface. Waxing needs to be done on a perfectly clean bike with very little applied pressure. What ever you do, treat the finish with a LOT more care than normal. 2. Ride Command is glitchy and full of software bugs. It works, but it obviously needs a lot more work to get it to function properly. Polaris,.. please just get it to work well, rather than spend time on new features and so on. When riding, functionality is more important than features. It needs to work right so as not to distract from concentrating on the road! 3. Horn button location. Totally in the WRONG place. Sometimes I want my thumb on the horn as I ride and its position makes that difficult. It isn't located in the common position and that is bad when you need to hit the button quickly and instinctively. 4. Front brakes: As good as they are, I expected more bite and stronger stopping power. The rotors should be fully floating and another 10mm larger in diameter. Don't get me wrong, they are very good brakes. I am swapping out pads and bleeding the lines in the hope of an improvement. I think Challenger buyers are more likely to be drawn to the performance aspects of the bike and so strong brakes are an area of interest and importance. All the above would not deter me from buying again. Other people have reported other issues but apart from the items above, I am very happy with the bike. I would highly recommend it. It is fantastic! I cannot understand how someone would buy a Harley over this! (In all fairness though, I will say the HD M8 motor is a very nice power plant. I was pretty impressed with it... but the rest of the HD package is just inferior in so many ways). Thanks to Polaris for letting me post this and good luck to new buyers. If the paint quality and usability are improved a little it would make this bike simply outstanding. Keep doing what you are doing Polaris! It will take a few decades but you can be on top of HD if you deliver the right package and support it well. You don't have to be the biggest to be successful, just be the best! And please.... an inline 4 some day perhaps!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from POOR clear coat finish, Dead Battery I bought this bike on April 1st 2021, had to wiat almost 6 hours passed the time that was previously slated time that was booked 2 weeks before hand, pickup time, was nit h, rode an hour home , when I got there the clear coat was already scuffed, even with the good cleaner and the softest rag it scratches, bought a cover specifically for the Challenger from Indin, cleaned the bike, put the cover on for 5 days, removed the cover, bag lids now look 5 years old, pay 35 grand for a bike, paint is crap. The battery dies if I don't ride it for 2 or 3 days, I told the techs about it at first service, nothing has changed. It is a magor flaw that many many Challenger riders are facing, so far Indian offers nothing except for us to buy a battery tender and keep it plugged so it stays charged, if I wanted an electric bike I would have bought a different bike. Once the bike is running it is an excellent machine and I love this bike until I look at the paint or try to start it. My wife and I live full time on the road in our toy hauler RV so always having to charge bike is a real pain and popping into an Indian dealer is by no means easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Challenge Accepted Already a Indian customer putting over 36,000 miles on My 2015 Roadmaster I was very interested in the debut of the Challenger and power plus 108 motor. After visiting my local dealer in Malta NY spring of this year, and test riding the bike I was sold immediately by the Ride, Power and Comfort I added it to my Indian Fleet. I look forward to the summer months and adding the miles on this amazing ride.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bike!! I traded my 2016 Springfield in for the Challenger. All it took was one test ride and i'm like, "get the paper work out"! SOLD! This bike is gorgeous man. I've had complements from everybody. It's a joy to ride and all day comfy. I love the lean angle technology. The Brembo brakes noticeably stand out. The power is stupid fast! I DID have to go through a bit of a re-learning curve concerning slow maneuvering because of the power the bike has. If your not use to this kind of power i would recommend riding in the standard mode until you get use to it. That's not a complaint mind you, it just "is what it is".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bike feels like it was made for me. So far I am happy about the bike. I liked my victory xc. I feel where the victory had flaws the Indian is is a similar bike without the flaws. Smooth transmission torque at lower rpms and the extra technology with ride command. Also great wind management.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the bike. The tune needs work. By now, everyone has heard about how great this engine is and it is amazing. Power to spare and it is very smooth. I love the physical set up of this bike. I'm 6' and it fits me almost perfectly. Naturally wanted different bars and windshield but the stock seat is surprisingly comfy. I also like where it positions me overall. Handling is incredible. I came off a Scout and find this bike inspires even more confidence in the twisties. Very planted and stable when crawling at low speeds as well. Really, my only complaint is a common one and that is the tune needs work. The throttle lag is always in the back of my mind when doing slow speed maneuvers. The response is hit and miss at low speeds. Mine also has the idle surge issue. I'm looking forward to an aftermarket tune at some point to resolve this. As a Canadian, after market support for the tune is difficult. This is the only reason I can't give 5 stars.

Since then I have riden it to North Carolina , total trip 2458 miles . I traded in another Brand of motorcycle, not to name any brand other than a HD triglide . Best choice I ever made, wish i had done it sooner in life . I haven't been on two wheels in probably 16 years, but with this New Roadmaster it was a breeze . Road better than anything Ive ever ridden .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable, has lots of power, bells and whistles Bike is comfortable, lots of throttle. I only have it on Touring Mode. I can't wait to get to know this bike to put it on sport. I ride with a lot of Harley's, they are slow compared to this bike. Once the circuit braker was replaced this bike is hungry for the road. Handles nice and responsive. I totally recommend this bike for people who want to go the distance on the open road.

Traction also leave something to be desired. Gets real loose in the rain Nice creature comforts. However everything is a la carte so get ready to break out the wallet. Pipes scrape on every hard turn

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 2021 Indian Roadmaster ICON series My very first brand new motorcycle. It was a toss up between HD and Indian. I did not want to be buried under the same model, color, options as the standard HD and Indian models. I knew I wanted a big tour bike as we want to travel as well as stand out and look good while doing it. We chose the Arizona Turquoise Roadmaster icon series. The dealer didn't stock it so we ordered it from the factory. Took about 3 months to get but well worth it. I put on 500 miles in just the first month and it is very comfortable, powerful and eye catcher. Only downfall is that the ride command system and software is garbage. It freezes up, reboots and the radio/sound does not come on for some random reason. I have had into the dealership many times and only get shrugs from both Indian motorcycles and the dealership. I have a feeling that it something i will just have to live with.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love everything but two things Bike runs great. The suspension is sooo much better than my old HD. My only complaints are the catalytic converter needs to go and the rib directly in the way when you fill the gas tank has caused gas to spill out on my tank 3 out of the 5 times I've filled it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is how two wheels should be I've had my new ride for a little over two months and put 2800 miles on it already. This is a motorcycle that lures me to the open road whenever I have time.
